Lets Get Silly with This year's Summer Reading Challenge.

Each year the Challenge supports over 700,000 children to keep reading to build their skills and confidence.

This year, the Summer Reading Challenge’s Silly Squad will celebrate funny books, happiness and laughter.

Children taking part in the Challenge will join the Silly Squad, an adventurous team of animals who love to have a laugh and get stuck into all sorts of funny books!

There is a different format for this year’s challenge. In past years’ the challenge has been a big hit in our local libraries over the summer break, as well as being accessed online. But with the disruption caused by Covid-19 and the impact of social distancing on schools and public libraries, the 2020 Challenge will launch in a new digital format designed to keep children engaged and interested in reading.

The Summer Reading Challenge is free to access and also gives kids a place to rate and review the books they’ve read as they progress.

The website features books, games, videos, quizzes and digital, downloadable activities to arm them with everything they need to take part in the challenge from home.

The Challenge is up and running now, so you can get started straight away and runs through to mid-September.

You can also visit your local library website to access children’s reading materials and resources including eBooks, audiobooks and comics completely free of charge.
