Partners (staff) at John Lewis Brent Cross pitched in to clean up and replant the gardens at the North London Hospice’s Woodside Avenue site in Finchley last Wednesday.

The team of 36 Partners were joined by John Lewis managing director, Andy Street, and spent the day sprucing up the garden and digging new flowerbeds. They also refurbished the patio area, giving visitors and staff a place to relax.

Amanda Timothy, Community Liaison Coordinator at John Lewis Brent Cross, said:

“The work North London Hospice does is vital to the local community, so when they asked us for help we were delighted to assist.

Andy started his career with John Lewis as a graduate trainee at Brent Cross, so it was great to see him back in Brent Cross working with Partners from across the branch to transform the garden.”

John Lewis Brent Cross has a long-term relationship with North London Hospice, which provides specialist end of life care for those with a life limiting illness within the Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey.

The department store has previously provided a number of donations for the hospice and most recently did a sponsored walk for the ‘Hospice 100 Challenge,’ raising £340.

Douglas Bennett CEO of North London Hospice said:

“Our garden is a very special part of the hospice and really important to our patients and their families.

Our volunteers work so hard to keep the garden looking at its best but, as a charity reliant on donations to fund three quarters of our care, we don’t always have the money to spend on the garden that we would like.

Not only did John Lewis make a donation to the fund the garden makeover but Partners (staff) really helped out with the work needed to get the garden looking great. We are really grateful for all they have done.

We would also like to thank the following local garden centres for donating all the new plants, pots and compost which helped to make the project possible:

Sunshine Garden Centre, Durnsford Road, Bounds Green N11 2EL.

Finchley Nurseries, Burtonhole Lane, Mill Hill NW7 1AS and

The Garden Centre, Potters Bar"
