But how much do you know about the events of November 5th? Here are 5 fireworks night facts to mull over ...

 

  1. The first recorded celebration of the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot took place in 1607 in Bristol.
  2. Until 1859, it was illegal not to celebrate it.
  3. The cellars of the Houses of Parliament are still searched before the opening of each new Parliament.
  4. In 1978 a receipt for the illicit gunpowder was found in the Office of Public Records. It cost 15s 6d to remove it from the House of Lords to the arsenal at the Tower of London. 
  5. Guy Fawkes was named the 30th greatest Briton in a poll conducted by the BBC in 2002.

Southgate Fireworks Display is on Saturday 5th November 2011 at Walker Cricket Ground.

 

The Enfield Town Park Fireworks Display is on Saturday 5th November 2011 at Enfield Town Park.

 

Barnet District Scouts Annual Firework Display is on Saturday 5th November 2011 at Frith Grange Scout Camp Site.
