Bar service was slow due to only having one staff member working it, but she was friendly and apologetic about the wait. Seems to have an infestation problem with flies in the bar/restaurant. It was so bad on the first night, I decided to eat elsewhere on the second night. Bar prices are extreme. The water pressure is very bad on the top floor - to the point that it's almost impossible to get a shower, due to the temperature changing rapidly.

Got here in October during the week. Greeted with a smile at the reception desk and the restaurant staff were great and the food was excellent.

Room I stayed in was clean and tidy but a bit old and could be updated.

Reception was friendly regardless of time :-)

We booked this as a chance of a few nights away with spa and pool for a relaxing break away. I'd been happy with the reviews and then got worried as more reviews came in. We did have very poor shower power and our room was at the front of the building so road noise was an issue, but we needed the window open as the room was so hot, even with the radiator turned off. Not sure if that was because of the memory foam mattress or the plastic backed mattress protector! we had a lovely 3 nights, spent a lovely few hours in the spa area, which was in the most part clean and well kept. We did come across the fly issue in this part of the hotel and did find the fly strips rather disgusting.

Buffet breakfast was ok, and food was replaced when it ran out. All the staff we encountered were lovely friendly helpful.

I booked s stay here recently as it is part of the Accor group and reasonably close to Manchester where I was working. The image used to advertise the hotel of a Georgain manor house frontage is quite misleading. That is quite literally just the facade. Behind that is an eclectic collection of buildings that have been tacked on to create a hotel that feels haphazardly put together. The rooms are a little tired, especially the bathrooms, and I never did manage to work out how to switch the bedside lights on and off. A meal in the large and soulless bar area was poor and piped local radio in the bar merely sapped what little atmosphere the place might have had completely. In addition I found that the drive into Manchester from here in the morning is commuter hell and took way too long. All in all a dispiriting experience that I shan't be repeating.

The hotel was just fine and only a short walk into Preston centre. The Guild Hall 5 min away. The room was very clean with a good shower. The car park was a little small for the size of the hotel but everyone was parked up when you ignored some of the double yellow lines around it. As usual breakfast was overpriced at £12 so we never bothered and just went to a local cafe called Scrumptious in Market Street and got a full English with toast and tea for £5.

This place was good for rate paid on a special offer. Spent 1 night here. Small room, but was clean. Bed a bit of the hard side but no different to a lot of hotels. Tea/coffee provided, bathroom good. Parking is a bit limited, but if you get lucky it's free unlike some HIs.

The gentleman on reception was very friendly and helpful. Paid for breakfast at check in.

My main gripe was the breakfast staff. They were rude and challenged that I'd paid, with no apology when mistake was discovered. Also, no tea/coffee offered, when I asked for a pot of tea like the other guests seemed to have, reluctant staff poured something resembling dishwater out of a jug. Also had to reuse a milk jug that had been left by previous guest at table as none offered.

Rest of breakfast was ok as that was buffet self service. There were a lot of BAE staff staying there who seemed to be getting all the preferential treatment. For example, we wasn't allowed to pay cash at the bar, but the other guests were. The night porter was friendly and helpful though.

Would avoid breakfast there if were to go back. Great having convenience of being in town centre, cleanliness and polite attitude of the reception staff.

To be honest this place was a revelation.

We had low expectations--chain hotel, city centre in the north of England, likely to be a bit grim, etc.--but were very pleasantly surprised.

The best thing was the staff. We stayed twice in September and on both occasions the front desk staff and the people in the bar and breakfast room were excellent: friendly, helpful and welcoming. (My wife, an experienced manager who was fascinated by the consistent pleasantness of the staff, which is hardly a common experience in chain hotels, wondered if this place is just a happy place to work with good managers and a strong team spirit: whatever the cause, the results were very good.)

The breakfasts were very good too. Just what you would hope for in a northern English hotel. And if you don't fancy eating in the in-house restaurant there's Preston city centre at your disposal, with Heathcotes' Brasserie only ten minutes walk away.

Frankly, for anyone looking to break a long journey on the M6 somewhere in the area, you could do a very lot worse than give Preston Holiday Inn a go.
