This was our overnight stop on our coach journey to Scotland. For people with any walking disability it isn't easy to access. You have to get a lift to reception and unfortunately 2 coaches arrived at the same time so it was chaos and it took quite a while to get to our room. The room was very comfortable. Dinner was a nightmare as there were 3 coaches in the hotel and instead of staggering meal times everyone went in at the same time, and the food was very poor except the soup. However over 2 hours for an evening meal when you are tired is too long and they need to rethink how meals are served to coach parties. The evening meal except the soup was dreadful but the breakfast was very good and self service which was much better than the evening meal.

Stopped for one night for a work trip
Quick and easy to find
Parking was a pain (looked for a space and found none, parked in the bus station across the road and walked back to the hotel to find 3 spaces were now empty 🤦🏾‍♀️)

Anyways - check in was easy and quick

Went to my room which was massive and had everything you could need

However it did look and feel outdated (carpets looked old maybe it was the colours of it that looked outdated !)

Getting ready for bed I decided to run a bath and put the air con on, came out and was sitting in bed and could hear dripping sounds
It took me 5 mins of looking around everywhere to realise that it was the air con unit dripping water on to the carpet (definitely needs to be checked out)

I had a great nights sleep - bed and pillows were comfy and as I had the air con the temperature was just right for me (colleagues mentioned their air con systems had problems!)

Breakfast was very good in the morning too, filling and a good choice of hot food and continental type brekkies too

Would consider staying again if in the area !

Booked this hotel as a single female guest for an overnight stay. Hotel did not disapoint. Wanted a central location so I could go out in the evening to meet friends and not worry about walking back to hotel. Very central...next to bus station...3 mins walk from Guilhall...4 from main shops.
Room had everything needed, was spacious and clean. Excellent comfy bed (double) and choice of firm/soft piĺlows...brilliant! Both bath and adjustable shower. Nice biccies with tea/coffee tray.
Breakfast was impressive array of continental and cooked. Staff were so lovely and very friendly...nothing too much trouble.
Made the decision I would have another night out in Preston with friends again in future purely because of hotel. I felt safe and comfortable staying there. 😊

Despite visiting following torrential rain, these gardens still managed to retain their beauty at the beginning of Autumn! Plenty of winding paths for children to explore and beautiful views aplenty. There is a lovely cafe serving superb and very reasonably priced homemade food. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and knowledegable which always makes a huge difference. All in all a facinating day out for adults and children alike, not to mention dogs, which are welcome in all areas of the garden and with a covered seating area outside the cafe, they can even join you for coffee!!

Got married here in November. Everything was perfect from the entrance of the bride, food and staff (both on the day and before in preparation for the big day). We would thoroughtly recommend you to have your wedding here in the Orangery but also to visit the fabulous gardens.

I used to work in the house when Somerset Fire and Rescue Service used it as their HQ before we were taken over by Devon FRS and I used to walk the gardens every day at lunchtime. The gardens are spectacular for most of the year and a relaxing walk around the ponds is well worth the effort.

We went on a bright sunny winter day and while this is not ideal for a garden of this sort were impressed by the sheer scale of it all. There was plenty of water in the lakes and cascades and we were able to walk most of the paths - some closed because of recent heavy rain and flooding. There was colour from berries and the spindles contrasting against the frosty ground!

The only downside was that there was no one at the ticket sale point and we could have simply walked in without paying. We were directed to go to the shop to buy the tickets which - of course - we did. I was a few steps in front of my companion and was gruffly told to "shut the door" by the sales person. The shop was not busy but she was serving and it took some while to buy our tickets. To be fair she did thaw out a bit and told us about the garden. If the door needs shutting the site should fix the spring! My companion got in free and I got a discounted on-line ticket which made it good value. If it really is £9/10 per head as reported elsewhere I would have hesitated to have paid that!

The toilet facilities are exxcellent!

The restaurant area and food was good with a very outgoing server. See separate review.
