As my preferred hotel in the local area I'd booked a 3 night stay. Our corporate booking system had managed to arrange a "breakfast inclusive" rate on this occasion, but only the basic room type (some you win...)

I was accompanied by a colleague, which was fortunate as, despite my request for a room in the rear accommodation block I'd been allocated one in the front block facing the road. Fortunately my colleague (who claims to be able to sleep through a hurricane) was happy to swap rooms with me, and his room - then mine - was as originally requested. We checked in early, at around 13:30, but our rooms were ready so we dropped off our bags.

On returning to the hotel later that evening we had the opportunity to use the leisure facilities before going out to dinner nearby. Sadly the Jacuzzi was out of action, but the main pool was open and the steam room and sauna were working fine.

My room was hot at the end of July, but the hotel provided a fan on request. Using this at an open window managed to keep the temperatures sufficiently cool overnight, and a good nights sleep was possible (mainly due to being able to leave the window open as I was in the rear accommodation block - too noisy IMO if facing the road in the front block, even with the window closed)

Breakfast each day had a good selection of hot and cold options available (buffet style) but for some reason there were no eggs available on the first two days, and having a later breakfast on the last day of my stay the staff noted that they only had 8 remaining whilst I waited in the queue - there is a Tesco less than 2 miles away folks!

Other than "egg-gate" at breakfast I had a pleasant stay. The staff as always were attentive and helpful, and I'll be sure to stay here the next time I'm in the area.

A bit of a rabbit warren, fraying at the edges.

Whilst service was usually good, advertised items at the bar weren't available.

On a hot summer's evening, the lack of bedroom air conditioning or the ability to open a window more than a few inches made for a less than ideal evening.

Having said that, at least the meal was good and the same again for breakfast.

I found the room very basic, not even travelodge standard and very very dated. Also, why hotels decide to remove plug sockets from the sides of the beds is totally beyond me. Yes this may save you a few pounds in electricity but also means I wont be staying here again..On a positive note the food is above average and the staff were quite friendly and helpful

In October last year (2011} I was sent by my employers to work in Preston for 6 months, the agreement was that I would stay in preton from Sunday evening returning to the South east on Friday evening.
My employers (a Government department) use Expedia for hotel bookings so I left the arrangements up to them and they selected the Holiday Inn.
I enjoyed staying here, the hotel provides car parking which was important to me and from day one I was impressed with the staff from the porters to the duty managers everyone of them was cheerfull and very helpfull.
My double room was comfortable and kept clean.
I can not priase the breakfast enough, plenty of choice and guest can eat as much as they like.
My only negative is that the evening meals were quite expensive but there are plenty of restraunts close by including Indian and Chinees and a trtaditional pub at the end of the road.
The hotel is situated opposite the bus station but i was not kept awake at night and the town centre is within walking distance.
I would reccommend this hotel to business travellers who want to relax after a gruelling day of meetings or to do extra work from the hotel.
I was not there at week-ends but I think that it would be a good base for couples and adult famalies but I did not get the impression that there wa much to do for young children.
I could have changed to a more expensive hotel but decided to stay put although a swimming pool would have been nice.

I stayed here last week, it is now a Holiday Inn Express and has only been open 6 weeks. The room was immaculate with a really comfortable bed, huge power shower and modern decor. Only negative was the limited food menu but the buffet breakfast had a massive choice and was excellent. Overall offers excellent value for money in a really handy location for the M6, would definately recommend.

its very generic, bland and ordinary. extremely good value for money. There are only a couple of rooms in the hotel that have windows that open - luckily we had one of them. The staff are very helpful, but the service in the bar was seriously slow

This hotel has been downgraded since I last stayed here, you won't find a bathrobe or slippers in your room. The rooms are modern and clean and a reasonable size. Good value for the money. The car park is small however and spaces are at a premium.

Good location if you arrive by car or bus - it's a bit of a hike from the railway station. Good cheeck in, fast and easy and staff pleasant and welcoming. Room was of a good size and the sliding wooden window shutters are a novel idea and effective. Room clean along with the bathroom. Ample storage space but no iron or ironing board, bit of a fag to ask every time yu need it, but am sure that it would not be a problem. The room was very quiet, no noise from outside or adjoining rooms.

Dining room pleasant along with the staff but the meals are expensive and generally small portions. Would suggest eating as the top of the main street is not to far. Breakfast is much better with a good selection of food, presented as buffet style. Staff attentive and observant and make sure you are looked after. Generally good quality food such as bread, orange juice and the local yoghurts are wonderful. Top marks for breaskfast.

Check out easy and staff check if you need any assistance for your onward journey and ask in a way that shows they do want to help, rather than it being part of the check our script. Overall the bedrooms, staff and breaksfast are the things which score the hotel highly.
