Really comfortable stay.staff all very friendly and helpful the room was spacious with really nice bedding. The room was nice and warm which was pleasing as it was -4 outside!! The indoor pool had a relaxing atmosphere and the sauna and steamroom were very welcome and no queues.. The food was tasty and breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice ..a really pleasant mid week break 👍

I attended a Christmas party with my partner. The food at the function was very bland and uninspiring, choice was poor. Service at the bar was slow, beer was full of froth, whisky & coke had about half a pint of coke in it, no ice offered. I ordered a bottle of prosecco, which was pricey at £29 and was completely flat, it was begrudgingly exchanged at the bar but the second one was just as flat - complete waste of money. Sound system for the disco was so poor you couldn't understand a word the DJ said. Felt like a regurgitation of a 1980s Christmas party.

Our bedroom was spacious, but a little more attention to cleaning and maintenance is needed. Hospitality tray was poor, no bottled water available in the room. Lots of noise from the function room, and the fire alarm going off twice during the early hours meant we didn't get a good sleep. Corridors were in need of a good clean and some redecoration.

Breakfast was average, the hot food tasted like it had been sat keeping warm for quite a while (tough bacon and hash browns etc). But the staff at breakfast were friendly and attentive.

Expensive for the quality of the room/ food/ function. Wouldn't choose to return

One night stay 11.12.22- 12.12.22 (couple)

From the minute you pull off the main road and into the long drive, you are rewarded with a site to behold. A stately manor hotel.

Staffing - exceptional in all departments. I hate to name check, as they were all brilliant, but Joseph, Megan and Aziz were absolutely outstanding. We were both made to feel welcome by the reception staff.

Executive room - Perfect, large, great view, king size bed, large mirrors and really pretty bathroom.

Breakfast well what can I say, it has everything, you name its in there. Including the nice little touches such individual pots of honey and jam.

Highly recommend this hotel and as the terminator says 'I'll be back'

Warm and welcoming, good food and the rooms are spacious. Lovely grounds and with the bonus of a pool and spa. Within easy reach of all areas of Lancashire, Cheshire and Liverpool. We enjoyed it and would stay there again.

The room had clearly been renovated recently however parts still looked a little tired (bathroom door was broken and didnt lock)
There needs to be a little more attention on the cleaning as there was dust bunnies in the bathroom and dust on drawer handles.
Never the less, the room was still warm and comfortable with great facilities (large TV, coffee machine, fridge, kettle etc) the dressing gown and slippers were a nice touch.
The hotel was having events (Christmas parties) on the night we stayed. They continued into to the early hours (even though the hotel information stated quiet time was between 10-7). This meant our stay wasnt as peaceful as we had wanted.
Perhaps it would have been an idea to put us at the other side of the hotel away from the noise. It may be worth checking if the hotel has an event on before booking.
We still managed to sleep okay and we loved the food!! The restaurant is a credit to the hotel!
The spa was okay, they had a burst pipe in the gym, i am guessing this impacted their heating as the pool was cold and the hot tub was chilly so not very comfortable to sit in. The sauna and steam room was lovely though. Its a shame hotel didnt live up to our expectations as we had hoped for a relaxing couples spa break.
Overall a little more attention to detail required. Perhaps asking guests if they are here for the parties or if they prefer a quieter room. There is so much potential with this hotel but at the moment a little overpriced for an underwhelming time.

We had to wait for our evdn though we hot there at 3pm, no problem as we were given a free drink. When I returned to reception at 4pm I was thdn told they didn't have the room I requested...after a few mins, it was found. The building is old and due to the heavy rain there were buckets everywhere and damp marks.
In our room, none of the side lights worked but it was nice and big and away from any noise, albeit a trip on an outdoor (undercover) slippy path to reception and spa.
Not many vegan options for brekkie, no soya yoghurts and they ran out of marg for the toast but they did have plant based milks.
The main thing about this place is the staff...absolutely amazing. Friendly, efficient, chatty. An asset to Mercure.

We stayed Saturday night for my birthday…plus two friends. Gift in room totally unexpected and a lovely touch. Dispute disruption to spa due to refurbishment of changing rooms…great experience. Staff in spa Richard and Caitlin excelled. Evening dinner extremely good complimentary bottle of wine was most welcome. Service was excellent. Break fast was great and Iziz service was professional and friendly. We will definitely be back. We saw Nicola on reception on arrival and departure she was also brilliant. Thank you.

Booked a last minute overnight stay and so glad we did. Arrived early room ready which meant we had a little longer in the spa. Robes and slippers provided in the room, room decor great, everything we needed. The visit to the spa was excellent with everything clean & tidy, only downside was the ladies changing rooms being renovated so we all had to share a bedroom to get changed, when we left the spa I went back to my room in my robe. Deal came with a 2 course evening meal and complimentary bottle of prosecco. Food and service was very good and we couldn't fault anything. Breakfast the following morning again no faults, excellent buffet choice & hot food. All in all an excellent stay, yes there were some renovation works in and around the hotel which is the only reason i didn't give 5* at this particular time
