A 3 night stay on business in the Bolton area found me back at the Mercure Georgian House hotel. I have stayed here several times before, on average once every 3 months, but this was the first time I was able to experience the upgraded premium rooms and the hotel-wide free Wi-Fi service now available.

I had booked the premium room, as for a little extra money this offers a lot more space and free movies and wired Internet, along with an in-room Nespresso coffee machine, towelling robe and slippers.

I was given the Rivenhall suite - room 770 towards the rear of the hotel. I have stayed in this room before, but the new decor, new bed and other added facilities in the room have certainly given a new look and feel to the same space. One of the nicest touches (see photo) was having a real living plant in the room on the work desk (I named it George after the Georgian House hotel where "he" lives <|8¬). Something so simple but made the room feel far less sterile and "hotel room" like.

Due to work pressures during this visit I did not get a chance to use the pool or leisure facilities at the hotel sadly, but have done so in the past and found them to be really good.

Breakfast was excellent each day, and whilst the hotel was somewhat quiet so the food on display was not overly plentiful, the staff would get anything on request which was appreciated – and always fresh.

The bar staff were always helpful too, even serving well past 12:30am when returning after working late one night.

There was an additional unrecognised bar item on my bill that was quickly removed at checkout, and due to some confusion (partly my fault) I had been charged for 4 breakfasts even though I only stayed 3 nights, but this was also quickly refunded to my credit card after a quick call to the hotel a few days later.

This hotel is an excellent base for visiting the nearby hills and businesses in the Bolton and north west Manchester area, with excellent road access to both the nearby A6 and M61. The hotel has really/genuinely friendly and helpful staff, and if you can afford the little extra go for one of the new premium rooms with the additional benefits this offers. With the addition of hotel wide free Wi-Fi connectivity (replacing the paid for BTOpenzone service in the bar area only) and the other recent improvements in decor etc, all of my minor issues and comments from previous visits have been addressed thank you.

I will be back, in around 3 months!

Managed to secure a very good rate for a weekend stay to visit family.
Room spotless, all the facilities worked, good breakfast, room completely suited our needs - indeed I have paid much more for far less.
Plenty of parking, bar good...perhaps best to describe as 'did exactly what it said on the tin'.
We'll be back - especially if we can secure a good rate again.

Stayed overnight for a family wedding, at a venue nearby, on a special rate for a Friday night, £86 in a twin room on the third floor with a slightly overhanging wall, causing early morning light to hit one of the beds, which were overly soft and spongy. Bar area ok and breakfast satisfactory. Parking good. Bathroom decent size especially when compared to the bedroom do not take the cat.

The double bedded room was compact but just about enough room for everything. Bathroom was OK but water pressure in the shower was poor. A small tube of shampoo and another of body-wash was provided which was nice as well as a small bar of soap. Reading light beside the bed was not bright enough to read by, a higher wattage bulb is required. Bed was comfortable and the room was clean. the TV was snowy, and there was no biscuit or drinking chocolate on the tray. Evening food in the restaurant was tasty put rather pricey for what it was. At breakfast there were insufficient tables set at 7:30 and people had to wait for a table. Coffee was good, fruit selection was limited. Fried eggs kept running out and were not replenished quickly enough, also no black pudding on the buffet which was a disappointment for a Lancashire hotel. however the food provided was of good quality and tasty.

All the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. I must take a moment to compliment 2 guys in particular...... Chris & Carl. Where do I start with these two..... friendly, helpful beyond belief. Their attention to detail for the wedding I was helping co-ordinate was taken to a new high level I've previously experienced in other hotel and a credit to the Mercure.
Every details was covered, checked and checked again. Their staff on the day of the actual wedding were also a credit to them - all very attentive, no request was too difficult to deal with and done in a friendly helpful manner.
I would without a split second recommend the hotel for your event, especially if these two guys are running it for you - BRILLIANT!! I hope you're manager gives you this feed back - you know I said thank you a million times

Stayed here as I got a good deal. Loved the location and look of the hotel. Rooms could do with a bit of updating but were nice and clean. Breakfast was very nice and our kids loved it. Pool area was clean and pool warm.
Would stay again close to retail park for good food and shopping!

Held our wedding here on 22nd June and can't thank the staff enough.

Lasting impressions were made from my first telephone conversations with Sue one of the wedding co-ordinators and then my very first meeting with Marie Jolly who looked after us right through to the wedding. Nadine was our event co-ordinator on the day and she took over from Marie and she took care of everything perfectly on the day too.

We were a mature couple getting married and I was very apprehensive as to how people would react given that we wanted to involve all our children and grandchildren. I had no need to be. As I say Marie was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, everything was so organised and I have to say it was a pleasure to deal with such a lovely bubbly lady and the rest of the team.

I stayed overnight at the hotel (per-wedding) and as soon as Nadine came on duty on the Saturday she was there seeing what help we needed. She was brilliant in her organisation skills too.

We held our ceremony in the same room as we had for the meal/reception and everything went smoothly as far as we could see. The music was played on time, ceremony lovely (thank you Bolton Register Office for two lovely Registrars). The food was fantastic (thank you catering staff!) and we were treated like two very special people on the day.

All our family and friends passed comment on how lovely the wedding and how good the food was!

I hope the Management acknowledge the brilliant staff they have in this hotel, as I say everything was perfect from start to finish. I cannot thank Marie, Nadine, Sue (who took lots of calls from a nervous bride lol) enough but I would also like to thank Irene from behind the bar who is such a lovely lady too. Also not forgetting Peter, thank you. Your staff are a credit to you Mercure.

Thank you all so much!!!

If you are contemplating holding your wedding here - get it booked you won't regret it.

We were attending a wedding in the area and needed somewhere to stay for the evening. We upgraded to a superior room and asked for it to be in a quiet part of the hotel when we made the booking. As there was a wedding reception in progress when we cheked in, we were glad we had specified that we wanted somewhere quiet. Judging by the thumping base, tab ends, broken glass, and girl sprawled on the ground outside the back car park entrance, the guests were making the most of letting their hair down! Our room was a good size, clean and well away from the wedding noise, so we were pleased that we had spent the extra to upgrade etc. The bed was comfy and there was a coffee machine, robes and slippers too. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice. Overall we were satisfied with our stay but I think it may have been a different story if we had booked a standard room. I think that as a matter of courtesy all hotels should make it clear to other guests that a wedding reception is being held during their stay.

I went to a friends wedding and was recommended this hotel by another mecure branch due to fully booked rooms.
We were obviously recommended this hotel because it was a mecure and they didn't want us to go elsewhere. We paid £90 for a standard double room and I can tell you the premier inn is a lot better than this hotel which is highly rated!!
The bed was comfy but we had two singles pushed together, the tv did not work, and I mean they made you pay to watch the channels! I thought it was ridiculous, it should have been included in the price. The premier inn offers the basics and also let's you watch the tv channels included with your overall price of £29. You could hear others making noise in the rooms near. I did enjoy the breakfast the next morning. The food was lovely would go again just for the food.
To summarize it was a good hotel, clean with friendly staff.. But it wasn't worth what facilitates we're offered and too expensive and highly rated in my eyes. I wouldn't go back to stay there.
