This garden is lovely. It is a very peaceful place with walks through a wooded valley. You stumble upon follies while you are on your journey. Work to renovate the garden is still continuing. The house is empty but you can visit the romms.

We were impressed with the enthusiasm of the lady who welcomed us. We liked the house but also found it a shame it was empty. As another reviewer found we were mystified by the Art Collection The gardens were beautiful and well worth the visit. We also found some parts had a lot of steps and uneven ground. .

We spent a very enjoyable morning walking along the wooded paths. and gardens of this estate. All though I am slightly disabled I found it quite possible to stroll slowly through the woods omitting the steep climbs and with taking occasional rests I was able to see the cascade waterfall the ponds and the more formal garden areas. As I expect to make another visit to the area later in the year I will certainly pay this delightful place a second visit.

There is so much to offer, from the formal plantings to the second-hand book shop. We had the Gardeners world offer card, so got 2 for 1 offer, but would have paid the full price, as a 'cheap' day out for £25! There was a discernible difference in the staff, they are chatty, helpful, willing to spend time explaining things. We stopped for tea first, as I had told my husband these were the best scones in the world ( from a visit I did with Lackham college 5 years ago, horticulture course) And they still are..delighted :-) Good service, good food the courtyard was well thought out too. The main house is not really attractive ( obviously only my opinion) we were told that they hadn't had it long, bought it off the council for a £1 and the fire service had used of it for some time, a large undertaking. The second hand book shop was well stocked ( downstairs) and a restaurant there, worth a look! However, the apparent artistic endeavour upstairs was a case of 'style over substance' trying to be clever, but missing the point of having any artistic ability! The grounds are lovely, steps down to the house, the layout of the rill's to the ponds...beautiful. The Pergola was of particular beauty to me, love the columns. The workmanship that went into the building of the gardens is wonderful, just the rill set up is so interesting. The orangery, pump house, lakes ponds, waterfalls, folies/buildings...something for everyone!

Excellent place for a group visit, good coach parking and pre order catering in a separate room.
Beautiful garden, both formal and informal. We were lucky to visit on a beautiful sunny day.

Travelled down from Bristol to see and wander round these lovely gardens. 50 acres to enjoy. Great place to stroll in trees, by water, see birds& waterfall & follies and flowers a meadows and formal gardens (by Gertrude Jekyll). Highly recommended.

Well worth the visit. Wonderful tranquil woodland walks with a stream and a small waterfall. A climb to the top of the woods but a lovely view made it worthwhile. The formal gardens were at their best and we'll maintained. All the paths were smooth and easy to walk along. The whole area is dog friendly with a dog biscuit to greet the canine guests at the entrance. A large cafe with a good selection of food, a shop with plants at reasonable prices. An excellent day out. Not sure what it would be like on a rainy day but we picked a hot and sunny day

Gorgeous - it was like being in Italy - outstanding Italianate gardens. The house house exterior also beautiful Italian style having been redesigned - but there is very little of interest inside - having been home to the fire service for many years. The interior houses a fantastic contemporary art installation this summer.

Gorgeous gardens - do visit - you will not be disappointed! The plantings are perfect and surprises around every corner: rills and ponds. The extended gardens and woodland so well executed - fabulous walk in any weather.

And dog friendly - thank goodness - always a bonus and a rarity - I shall be back with my pug!!

We have a yearly membership here and it is worth every penny. So much to do you could spend a whole day here. Beautiful gardens and walks.

With my family, we spent a delightful afternoon walking through Hestercombe Gardens and rewarded ourselves with a clotted cream tea in the Column Room Restaurant. The tea was loose leaf served within an infuser in clear glass teapots. There were three fresh warm scones served with a good portion of strawberry jam and delicious clotted cream.
Since the closure of the Stables Cottage at Triscombe we've been looking for a good alternative to take guests, and we've found it at Hestercombe. Thank you, we'll be returning soon.
