Lovely gardens to walk around to suit all tastes.

Lovely little hideaways to sit in dotted on the walks around the gardens. I would love to go again on a rainy day with a flask and sandwiches and sit in the Temple Arbour and watch the rain tumble down in front of me.

There's a second hand book shop with an extensive selection of books very reasonably priced.

The cafe was nice, a sandwich costs £8.50 so you may want to bring your own and eat it in the grounds.

Definitely worth a visit!

We visited in the Spring about 4 years ago, and they were starting to put the gardens back to the original plans of Gertrude Jekyll.
A bit disappointed as the gardens didn't seem to have made much progress. The rills were all blocked with leaves, I know it's Autumn.
On the plus side. We could take our dog Oscar in as long as he was kept on the lead, and he was allowed in the shop and the cafe.
Free parking is another plus

Whichever season you visit these gardens are always a delight. Fun activities for kids in school holidays.

We enjoyed a half day at Hestercombe in a mixed generation group. There was plenty for 3 young children to do - wand making and a pumpkin trail. A nice short walk round
Successive periods of garden design for someone with limited mobility and a nice cafe at the end for us all to meet up !

Hestercombe is a mix of formal gardens and woodland. It's a wonderful place to escape for a few hours. For families it is worth noting that it's really easy to get around with a pushchair and there is a small play area at the entrance. The cafe also serves lovely children's options.

We went for the Christmas Market which was good but extremely busy - the grounds and gardens are scenic but much better when visited in Summer/Spring (have been before and its amazing) - garden not at their best in the Winter so a bit of a disappointment in that regard. Still worth a visit!

Great for a peaceful walk and a spot of lunch. They have regular events for Halloween and Xmas etc need good shoes as paths can be tricky especially after rain.

Despite it being a cold, damp day; the waterfall was operational and the weather stayed clear enough for the children (3-5) to enjoy the chickens, welly walks (muddy) and feeding the ducks as well as the shelters when the weather got a bit much.

All followed by a lovely lunch at the cafe/restaurant. Bit cold out in the courtyard but that’s testament to the popularity of the place as the indoor seating was full.
