A Shrewsbury-based leisure business is enjoying a bumper festive season, with new attractions and activities in the run-up to Christmas attracting a record number of visitors.

Nearly 300 adults and children turned a leisure company red and green as they dressed up as Santa and his elves to take part in a charity fun run in Shrewsbury on Sunday.

Santa Claus has made an early delivery to Shrewsbury Town Football Club to ensure that players and staff have a tree-mendous Christmas.

Extra parking had to be laid on due to the number of people attending the annual Shropshire Handmade and Creative Christmas Gift Fair.

Children in Shrewsbury are being given a direct link to Father Christmas in the run-up to the big day thanks to an initiative by town businesses.

Entries are pouring in from adults and children for an event in Shrewsbury on Sunday morning when they will dress up as Santas and elves to take part in a charity run.

Free parking will be on offer, and park and ride services from Meole Brace extended to every 10 minutes, as part of a campaign to encourage more people to do their Christmas shopping in Shrewsbury.

Organisers of the annual Shropshire Handmade and Creative Christmas Gift Fair are planning to “launch this year’s festive season with a bang” on the weekend of November 23 and 24.
