Splendid hotel. Large executive room with great shower. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Easy parking ( make sure you enter car number as soon as you arrive). Free bottle of wine on arrival and free soft drinks in fridge. Dinner menu a bit limited but tasty. Hotel staff were the best with a friendly and warm welcome at reception when we arrived. Mal in the bar was exceptional, he was very thoughtful and kind, even sorting out food for us before official serving time as we had to get to Blackburn hospital for visiting time. We really appreciated his efforts. The rooms were super clean, a credit to the lovely Alice in domestic services. Would very happily stay again.

Had a very enjoyable one night stay with my wife. Location is very good with some nice grounds. We used the gym and spa which were very good. Had a three course evening meal and full breakfast and even though we arrived at 9.30 plenty of food available and very tasty but the superb staff made our stay.

Upon approaching the hotel, the exterior was impressive. The reception provided a warm greeting and ample information. Our room was located through the hotel, down some steps, and at the end of an outdoor courtyard. Fortunately, it wasn't raining. We had reserved a table for 8:30 PM, but reconsidered after noticing the bar prices: £6.40 for a pint of standard lager.

The room was basic, with only one set of towels for two guests—a common practice in many hotels. However, my wife found nail varnish on her pillowcase, and the room featured an unsightly portable oil heater.

There was no hot water from the sink's hot tap when arrived, and the second shower head bracket was barely hanging on the wall. The heated towel rack was positioned too close to the toilet, leaving little room and posing a burn risk. The shower itself had such poor water pressure that it was barely functional all weekend. Bed was comfortable.

While breakfast was enjoyable, the waiting staff on Saturday morning seemed lethargic and at one point were stood staring at us while we ate. They also cleared only half of the plates, leaving the rest on our table. Sunday’s service was an improvement. This hotel isn’t a patch on the Mercure we’ve stayed at in Bridgwater. I wouldn’t make the effort to stay here again unless it improves.

Overall, a 3-star experience at best.

Conveniently located just off the M65, the hotel comprises an old historic mansion and two modern three-story extensions. In this mix is a large function room and numerous other smaller function and meeting rooms. It can be a long walk from your room to the restaurant. My room in the extension was very spacious with two twin beds, plenty of storage, big tv and all was smart and spotless. The step-in shower was very efficient. Although the window faced towards the road we found the noise to be acceptable, although I had to be careful opening the window as the wooden frames were a bit delicate. I was disappointed that there was no safe in the room, otherwise a nice comfortable room.
The restaurant has a comfortable bar-meal area as well as an extensive dining area. All the staff we met were friendly, helpful and efficient, meals were good and served in a relaxed way. Breakfast was buffet-style and adequate, although as a 4-star it did seem a little underwhelming. I would have expected to have been served tea or coffee pots at the table rather than queuing at the self-service machine.
Plenty of parking outside, but then again as a 4-star hotel standing in its own grounds they should not be charging guests for parking. A good hotel but I felt that it dipped slightly below my expectations as a 4-star.

Our room was in the former stables and it was comfortable with a up to date bathroom. The bed was large and comfortable but the room was a bit cold and there was no heating/air conditioning control in the room.
The spa facilities were excellent and the restaurant served delicious food in the evening and there was a good breakfast buffet in the morning.
The staff gave a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble.

Came for the spa facilities on my birthday, the spa itself had some good facilities but the staff seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing. We didn’t get a tour of the spa so we had no idea where the sauna was and no staff around to ask, waited 20 minutes at the bar for someone to serve us as nobody was around again. Food was nice but just seriously let down by their staff and was upset as it was my birthday.

Thank you to Emily & Edwina for making our Prom last night such an amazing experience. There were 261 of us and everybody had a fantastic night. I would definitely recommend the Dunkenhalgh as a venue . The food was lovely and the staff were very professional . A good night was had by all.

Average hotel- in need of some TLC! Not like I have heard it was units former life. It’s like a warren to get to your room! Some parts of the hotel seem run down and almost derelict. Not much staff once you’re past the reception and the breakfast was the worst I’ve come across. Very little options. The spa was lovely though.
I won’t stay again I’m sad to say.

We had a really lovely experience here for our first wedding anniversary. Room was a good size, breakfast was a good spread, and we enjoyed use of the spa facilities (£10pp for the day felt reasonable).
Aziz was particularly welcoming and made us laugh!
It's a large antique-style hotel, and was relatively busy whilst we were there.
