Came here for 1 night. It was with a voucher we received from Christmas 2022. We first arrived and checked in around 3pm went straight to the room dropped our luggage off and went straight to the spa.
The pool was a decent size. Sauna and steam room were good unfortunately one of the rooms was out or order when we were there. We didn't get chance to lie on the loungers as they were reserved by guest but it does say not to reserve loungers. Needed more loungers round the pool.
Changing rooms had everything you needed which was great.
Came back to the room and I noticed a big stain on the carpet so I wasn't happy with this it wasn't a massive issue but I would of liked to change rooms so rang reception to see if there was a availability to swap rooms and there was. The executive rooms were spacious and lovely equipped it just seemed a bit of a walk from reception.
Rooms had iron, ironing board, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Beds were comfy and big.
We ate at the restaurant there with our overnight deal it included a 2 course meal which I enjoyed mine but my partner had the steak and paid extra and said it felt like a pub steak and not worth the price. The puddings were delicious.
I am a very light sleeper unfortunately so heard everyone walk past at night time. My partner didn't hear anything so would recommend if light sleeper to bring ear budds.
Breakfast was lovely and alot of choice and hash browns were amazing best part of the Breakfast. It was a help yourself buffet.
Overall we had a nice time just the two of us probably wouldn't come back but it was nice to get away and relaxed. Staff were friendly and very helpful đ

We returned to the hotel to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, we were welcomed at the reception wonderfully. The room was superb, spacious and modern. We booked an evening meal on the Sunday night, this was 100% amazing, good portion size and plently of flavour. We were looked after amazingly in the resturant by all the staff who were very knowledgable of the dishes.
The following morning we went for breakfast and this was amazing, we have stayed in hotels previously and the breakfast is a let down but not here.... special mention to Aziz and Edwina who went out of there way at breakfast to provide us with an amazing service and help with our dietry requirements they both are an absolute credit to the hotel.
Finally we booked in for treatments and afternoon tea at the spa on the Monday, the treatments were amazing and the ladies who did the treatments were superb. A special mention for Anne who is amazing if there is anything she doesnt know then it isnt worth knowing she made us at ease and extremley welcome.
Looking forward to a return visint in the future

I had the most amazing stay at the hotel and spa! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. The room was beautifully appointed with all the comforts I could ask for, and the spa experience was simply rejuvenating. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect, and the dining options were a culinary delight. I left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and eager to return. This place truly knows how to create a memorable and luxurious experience. Highly recommended!

Been here a few times in the past, really love this place. The staff are just outstanding. Chris on the dining room is a top guy, really welcoming and so helpful. As are the ladies serving. All really helpful and lovely people. The girls doing massage in the spa are also excellent. Drifting in and out of consciousness whilst lying down in a state of euphoria. Defo one of our faves and defo be back. Few little things that have changed that we wished hadnât 1) food from the Spa bar has been moved, 2) thermal suites gone smaller. 3) canât sit at the main bar in robes (although this may have always been the case but in the past we could purchase food from the spa bar). Still a beautiful place though. 4) bring back fillet stakes!

Absolutely wonderful stay! We visited here for a weekend Spa break for my friendâs 40th. The hotel is stunning, the room was perfect and the food (we had afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast) was delicious. Great spa treatments and I used the gym too, all super clean with great facilities! The icing on the cake though was the amazing staff. Literally from checking in right until we left, they went above and beyond to make us feel special and were all so friendly and helpful. Special shout out to Aziz and Olivia, also the lovely housekeeping lady who helped us with our bags and wrote âHappy 40th birthdayâ on the room mirror for my friend and left us treats, such a lovely surprise! You really made the weekend so special and memorable and Mercure should be proud to have such wonderful employees. Thank you so much - we will be back!

We stayed at this Hotel with a group on a coach holiday. When we found our room it was at the bottom of an open courtyard, the door opening out to the yard. Because we had torrential rain for the first 3 days, we got very wet going for our meals, The room was not too bad, could do with an upgrade, there was holes in the bathroom door. Being OAPâs it was quite difficult getting into the high bath to use the shower. Food - the breakfast was very good, lots of variety, but the dinner was poor, particular the main course. After dinner there was no where to sit as the bar/lounge was always full. Finally on the last night we were woken in the early hours by party goers trying to get into the room next door. It was a concern that to get to these rooms, who donât have to go through the hotel entrance. I see from one of the other reviews they were not pleased with room 41. We expected better from this hotel, and had enough after 4 nights.

Always use this hotel when in the area as the staff are a credit (Sarah is always super helpful and goes above and beyond)
As anywhere else, you sometimes get small problems but these are always dealt with in my experience quickly and efficiently. The rooms are...... Well, they're clean, comfortable and spacious with good bathroom facilities.
Breakfast is decent, a good choice of food and plenty of it. I usually just order in a take away for evening food if required so can't comment massively on the hotels food, the small nibbley bits I have had have been great though.
The use of the spa facilites is great - since they have done up the steam/sauna area it is very nice. The changing rooms could do with a bit of attention but this isn't something that bothers me personally as they are always clean and having the facility to dry my swimming gear is a bonus instead of travelling home with wet clothes.
Having visited this hotel numerous times, I find comfort in knowing its hassle free and fills all the needs I have from a hotel whilst away from home - hopefully it keeps up its great standards and I can keep visiting.

We came here for a spa break for my 30th. I wouldnât recommend coming here for a spa break though as the facilities arenât up to scratch. We had a facial which was lovely but thatâs about as far as the positives go on the âspaâ side of things. The pool was freezing cold, including the hot tub area. We spoke with 2 people who were regular members and they mentioned that there was an issue with the boiler a few weeks ago which was supposedly fixed but they said it had been cold ever since then in the pool/whirlpool area. We told the staff in the spa reception but they werenât much help and advised that the temperature is âregulatoryâ and they would check it.. the whirl pool was literally shooting in ice cold water. They also told us the spa access was complementary with a hotel stay but we specifically booked a spa break so that was incorrect - we came to primarily use the pool/whirlpool and could only stay in for 10 minutes.
The food was nice in the evening. Not amazing but considering it was including in our package I canât complain too much.

We had a lovey stay with some friends, good parking, lovely welcoming staff , 700 year old building , plenty of history , bedroom and bathroom large and clean , spa good , restaurant good , staff exceptional especially Sarah ,
