Today, my husband and I came to this hotel for a spa day. Every staff member was so friendly and welcoming, which is just what you need to feel settled on your first trip to somewhere new. The treatments were amazing! So relaxing, calming and cosy. Staff explained everything that would be happening, so that you could be as relaxed as possible. This whole day was made by Sam on the reception team. He went above and beyond for us both. Nothing was too much for him and he did everything in a kind, friendly and non-judgemental way. The staff is definitely what makes this hotel great. I really hope management realise what a star employee that they have with Sam!

Stayed overnight for a works party the rooms was clean and comfortable. The shower wasn’t working properly which meant was hard to shower as was so hot. Didn’t have time to call Maintenance so told reception as I left.
We’ve stayed here a few times and always had lovely buffet got breakfast but today you ordered it was served and awful all 3 of us left the food and stopped at McDonald’s on the m65 instead not what you expect to have to do staying and paying 4* hotel prices. Will definitely reconsider hotels for next Xmas party.

I booked a winter warmer half day spa session with my daughter and this included a 50 minute treatment/ afternoon tea and use of the spa facilities. Firstly the afternoon tea was lovely but I’m not really an afternoon tea person and I would have loved an alternative choice such as soup & sandwich but the afternoon tea was part of the deal and it was plentiful and fresh! All the staff that we met in the day were lovely and friendly and the facilities are good!
But the best part of the day was the beauty treatment; we had upgraded to a back neck and scalp massage and it was amazing ! Ella the masseuse was so skilled and it was one of the best massages I have ever had !

All in all it was a fantastic experience !

Spent a family Christmas at this hotel. Firstly the pros: The staff were lovely especially Sara and Aziz. They saw to our every need. The rooms were very spacious and very clean. Prices were reasonable.
The cons. Worst experience we had was seeing a fully grown RAT in one of the reception rooms (the Garden Room). We reported this to the gentleman on reception who informed the manager on duty. We also informed the booking manager.
I understand that this is an old building and that doors may not always be closed properly closed but it was very unsettling to see a rat in a hotel. We were very disappointed that the duty manager didn't bother to contact us, if only to apologise.
Other than that the hotel was lacking a little more Christmas decor especially in the bare room where we had our Christmas singer and the Christmas quiz. It was the staff here that really shone out and made out family Christmas so enjoyable.

Nice place but made outstanding only by Callum and Jess in the bar who delivered superb customer service. Probably the best I’ve ever experienced. I hope these guys are managers as they clearly stood out.

We celebrated the New Year with friends at the hotels gala dinner event. An excellent night with good food, service and a first class singer to entertain us. The dining room was decorated stylishly to create a glitzy party atmosphere.
Our group of 10 stayed over in the large comfortable bedrooms to add to the occasion. My only negative point was there was insufficient bar staff during the afternoon before the event which meant a long wait before getting served.
Other than that an excellent experience.

The Duncanhalgh is a very nice, clean, comfortable hotel with good food nicely presented. There didn't seem to be a lot of staff on duty but they did extremely well considering the place was very busy. Paul in particular did a lot of multitasking making sure we were all enjoying ourselves. We were well looked after except on Christmas night. On our programme it was billed as a Gala Dinner with a singer. Unfortunately in the dining room our group was relegated to a small, very cold annexe with uncovered marble tables . We were very cold. The singer was positioned at the door of the main dining room and we could hardly hear her. A bit disappointing. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay.

We booked a family room last minute as we were left stranded in the area on our way from one hotel to another. We actually then close to delay the next stage of our trip and extend our stay here as we were made to feel so welcome and wanted to make the most of our oportunity here. We mainly dealt with Jess on reception, she checked us in and then I was glad to see it was her when we went to extend the booking. She was very attentive and made a fuss of our little boy. She even asked for our keycards to extend those so we didn't get locked out of our room when we were originally meant to leave. I was concerned when reading reviews and yes the hotel is tired in places but it is a beautiful historic building and the staff are so helpful. Breakfast could use improving. The quality of the food is not worth the cost so we chose to go out for breakfast on our remaining days.
