We had a wonderful one night stay. We were put in room 51 in the courtyard which was beautiful.. 30 second walk to the spa and restaurant. The spa itself is basic but has everything you need and the staff were very helpful and friendly, you can use the spa facilities from check in at 3 to check out at 11. We had a treatment each which were pretty pricy but were lovely as a treat and the girls were really nice. We didn’t eat in the restaurant as we didn’t book but the bar serves food just a limited menu. The breakfast was gorgeous plenty of options and everything was nice and fresh. Not one complaint here. I don’t know where the negative reviews come from. We will definitely return. Thankyou for a lovely stay!

Just got back from a spar night. We were upgraded to a family room so ended up with 2 King sized bed,the room was ok just a few issues, bathroom door handle was loose and there was a draft through the closed window. The spar treatments were amazing and our evening meal was lovely. The breakfast was ok but there were things missing,we did ask for poched eggs which were brought to our table. You couldn't fault the staff and nothing was too much trouble

Steeped in history with beautiful clean rooms and lovely views. The room was lovely, and the facilities were fine. We booked on the £99 wellness package and were very happy with the food/spa/staff. We got stuck in one of the lifts (only for 15mins) but the staff were so apologetic and lovely, Aziz, Alison, Elsa and Kara were all wonderful and the grounds around the hotel (although the height of winter!) were still picturesque with a lovely canal side walk not even 5mins stroll down the road. Will definitely be visiting again!

This was our fourth visit to this hotel, over the last three months, or so. Each time, we were made to feel ever so welcome. We had a different room, for each of our visits and we can only assume that every room, in this hotel, is of the same very high standard, as the ones we had. Comfy bed, warm temperature, excellent shower facilities. The restaurant was excellent, both for dinner and for breakfast. Good food, ever-changing menu. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the excellent team.

Our 4 night stay started very well with a friendly greeting at the reception desk. The allocated double room was larger than average, spotlessly clean and quiet.
All staff were consistently friendly and attentive. We would like to specially thank Aziz and Edwena in the restaurant who did everything they could to ensure that breakfasts were always a great start to the day. We would certainly return whenever we need accomodation in the area.

We stayed at the Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh for one night, the stay included access to the spa, a two course meal in the restaurant, a double room and breakfast.

When we first arrived we were greeted by the front of house staff, the gentleman that checked us in was friendly and welcoming but the young lady working with him not so much - she just glared at us.

Our room was just above reception and was spacious and light. There was a wardrobe, dressing table, a table and chairs by the window and a chest of drawers so lots of storage. There was tea and coffee making facilities and a large TV on the wall. The bathroom was nice, with a large circular mirror and a powerful shower over a bath with two shower heads. It just look liked there was a few areas that needed tidying/ touching up, for example that back of the bathroom door had clearly had a hook once attached and someone has tried to cover it up but just now very well. There was a body wash, shampoo and conditioner provided that smelled lovely and was good quality. Unfortunately our duvet had a hole in it and there was a suspicious looking stain on my pillow.

The spa was nice but the female receptionist wasn’t too welcoming and we had to ask for robes and slippers even though we got told they would be included. The changing rooms could do with updating and the locks for the lockers are useless. Myself and two other women were struggling to use them. There was also a couple of loungers around the pool the had definitely seen better days.

We’d booked in to the restaurant in the evening but we got peckish late afternoon so thought we’d grab some crisp or nuts at the bar. Neither bar in the spa or main hotel had any kind of snacks which we found odd. They did have a decent selection of drinks though and a local ale on tap which was nice.

Our evening meal was nice, slightly disappointed as we only got one set menu to choose from when a friend of mine had visited only 3 days prior on the same deal and had two menus to choose from. The selection of food on the menu we chose from was limited and even though the food was good quality it wasn’t necessarily something I would have chosen.

We had a good night sleep, the bed was comfy and there was limited noise.

The breakfast wasn’t great, there was no menus at all and the waitress who took our order only gave us the option of full English - just like the evening before this wouldn’t have been my first choice. When the food arrived it was cold and greasy, I only managed to eat the sausage and beans, I had to abandon the rest.

On the whole for the price we paid it was definitely value for money but I wouldn’t be in a rush to return, I think with a few tweaks though it could be fab.

My wife and I had our wedding reception at the Dunkenhalgh 18 years ago. We decided to return for a night away on the evening of the 24th Feb as a late Valentine's day treat. I called in advance and spoke to Chuti who was incredibly helpful. When I explained the reason for the visit she was eager to help make the occasion extra special. The staff in the hotel were all keen to see pictures from our wedding day and could not have done anymore to make us feel welcome, even though the hotel was very busy and had a function on. Our suite was amazing and the little touches they left for us made us feel really special. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was top notch, as were the spa facilities. We wanted to say thank you to everyone who made our night away so enjoyable and to all the team. Some of the staff were even still working at the hotel who were present on our wedding day. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a short stay.

Stayed 2 night bed and breakfast. Privileged room was nice clean big fantastic bed. Had food in the restaurant first night. Staff were welcoming. Danielle and Jess. We asked to book in for the Saturday night and was told it would be arranged.
Breakfast was a no from me husband like
It but the sausages were tough and cold. I don’t try the rest as it looked like it had been out a while.
We sat in the bar before dinner on the Saturday, the area was very cold even with heater but I guess it’s due to the age of the building. We went to our restaurant booking to be told we was not booked in and there was no room for us. So we had to retreat back to the bar to order food. My caesar salad was mixed with mayonnaise not Caesar dressing but we had waited that long we didn’t speak up as everyone was so busy. Jess on the bar was rushed off her feet but still
Managed to do a brilliant job. I asked 3 times at reception for a wedding brochure as was unable to get one. There seemed to be no brochures anywhere even for the spa. When checking out we was not asked how the stay was

We stayed for one night for a spa treat. The executive room which was really cheap to upgrade to was beautiful. Lovely comfy beds and modern. All
Of the staff we came across couldn’t have been more helpful. They were all happy, helpful and professional.
The spa was lovely, we had a nice swim and used the steam rooms and sauna.
Evening meal which was included in our deal was lovely, my only suggestion would be that they offer a better selection of gluten free options. Maybe just a gammon on chicken dish. Again breakfast was great, hot, fresh and great staff.
An absolute bargain of a spa break. We will definitely be back.

I have massages and facials regularly, but struggle to relax. The lovely Emma was that good that I nearly fell asleep for the first time. What a credit she is to your hotel. The blonde lady on reception upon entering was fantastic also, showing me around and what's what. A great day and good value with the offer they have on. Thanks again Emma
