The positives:
- Check-in was quick and the lady on reception offered a toy from a basket for our 4 year old son (lovely touch)
- Executive room great size, comfortable pillows and beds
- children allowed to use the pool 8-11 and 5-7 at weekends

The negatives:
- during family swim time a massive hen do screeching in the hot tub (why during the 5-7 family time which families can only swim after the morning slot are adults without kids allowed in?)
- hotel is poor for coeliacs - menu has gluten free containing ingredients but when we checked everything is cooked in the same fryer so contaminated and unsuitable for coeliacs - is it that hard to have a small separate fryer to prevent cross contamination especially when you are a large chain hotel?
- breakfast the buffet hot food had sausages containing gluten so again not suitable for coeliacs as if someone uses the tongs on the sausages then uses the same tongs for the other food it is instantly contaminated - the de vere have a separate gluten free breakfast selection area so I would have expected something similar.
The stay would have been great if properly gluten free available and family swim time being just that family swim not groups of adults I.e. hen parties.

Stayed overnight on a Sunday night special offer which included dinner and breakfast and use if the spa facilities. It was an excellent experience all 'round. Check in was very friendly and efficient and we were given an unexpected room upgrade because it was our anniversary. The newly refurbished thermal suite/sauna/steam rooms next to the pool are excellent. Considering dinner was from a set menu as part of the deal, there was a good choice of dishes and what we had was very tasty, well cooked and presented. our table was even decorated for our anniversary and we were given a complimentary glass of fizz. Breakfast next morning was also very good. Granted, the decor of this huge magnificent building is dated, as one cannot even imagine how much a place like this must cost to keep running on a daily basis. However, every single member of staff we came into contact with had a smile on their face, the food was very good, the room was large and very comfortable and the pool and thermal suite we excellent, so the decor did not detract at all from our stay and we will definitely return again. Highly recommended for a relaxing overnight break.

On arrival, the building looked beautiful, easy to park, upon arrival check in was so easy, room was easy to find as easily sign posted, Hotel itself has water damage on the stairwell and not tied away wires on the outside, entering the room it was very nice and spacious, but there was a weird large red/orange stain under the mirror. The beds super comfortable and the shower/bathroom was very nice but noticed a dirty towel when arrived. Dinner was reserved, offered alternative burger as didn’t have 1 of the products. When going to bed all you could hear was doors being slammed, the following day breakfast was adequate and somethings over done, went to the spa which was the highlight of the stay Ella was fantastic with great customer service and professionalism, we spoke to another couple who got a room upgrade and free drinks for a birthday, but it seems this was only for selected guests as this wasn’t offered for my partners birthday. The dinner in the evening was awkward, once again ordered a burger and no alternative offered this time just a burger plain bun and little sauce inside, multiple staff standing about felt like being stared at. Breakfast was better the 2nd day.

What an amazing stay, shannon on reception was amazing. The bedroom was fantastic, we had a spa day booked, everything was fantastic. Dinner was great, special thanks to Shannon, Katie, Carla, and Ashton for making my birthday special. All staff are a credit to this hotel.

I booked an overnight spa package for myself and my partner. When we arrived we were both taken aback at how beautiful the building was, and also parts of the inside, although like many have said they're were areas that were run down.
We went to the bar and had some lunch before we checked in, there was a gentleman who seemed to be some sort of manager, unfortunately I can't remember his name, but he was just fabulous, he was around at lunch, in the evening at the restaurant and for breakfast, he was really friendly and welcoming, a true credit to the hotel!

Lunch was good, we shared a selection of starters, it was similar quality to wetherspoons but obviouslya lot more expensive. The evening meal was included, again it was just good, nothing extraordinary. Breakfast was good, nice selection of foods available.

We used the spa facilities and had an ishga Face and Body Experience, this was all very nice, staff were fab as were treatments, however the spa area with a bit of a let down, limited loungers around the pool and most of the rooms were closed except the steam room. The jacuzzi was impossible to figure out, but nice when it worked.

Overall we had a really nice stay, however what put a downer on it and put me off returning was the issue I encountered when I returned home and realised I'd left some items in the room, one of which was a pretty much full bottle of clinique moisturiser.
I rang the hotel on the 5th, I was told nothing g had been noted but I'd recieve a call from the manager of house keeping.... 2 days later I rang back, again no help, on the 9th I called again and the manager of housekeeping rang me back. She told me she'd questioned the maid and there was nothing in the room. Obviously I was disappointed and decided not to leave a review at the time because I felt it would be unfair because I was really upset, this really tarnished the experience, what if I'd have left a really expensive item? Would that also disappear into the ether?
I decided to email the hotel at H6617@accor.com to explain the situation and I haven't even had a response. Fabulous customer service.

Overall mainly good experience, the only outstanding part was the gent wandering around the bar and restaurant. If you book here, please make sure you triple check you r rooms and don't leave anything as no one cares.

I have put average 3 stars because the spa treatments were excellent and the room lovely but the standard of food and the night time noise on our 2nd night let the place down massively.

The dinner on night 1 was average and improved on the 2nd night, the breakfast on the 1st morning was good but dry cooked food which had been sitting for a long time put us all off on day 2.
There was a group of people partying until after 3am on our second night, whooping and yelling, I WhatsApped the night manager but got no reply. Once the shouting died down the door slamming went on for ages.

I spoke to the concierge as we left and although he made sympathetic noises he really wasn't bothered.

I suggest you put some mufflers on the room doors as they all slam. Roam about at night to calm noisy guests down. If there are not a lot of people for breakfast, don't put so much food out, refresh it regularly. The pool area could do with some tiles being fixed.

Booked an executive room here as part of a deal for a Saturday night away.

The building is impressive from the outside and I was a little concerned at some reviewers' comments about the interior. I needn't have worried, we were very well looked after. Our room was big and the bed was big and the TV was big. All the facilities you would expect and spotlessly clean.

Check in was a bit of a pain, everyone at 3pm so quite a queue and I did hear that there might be a shortage of rooms available for later arrivals.

Complimentary bottle of wine as part of the deal and we played cards in the spacious bar where there was a good atmosphere.

We ate out locally so can't vouch for the restaurant but breakfast was also very good.

Surprised my wife for a we night here for our wedding anniversary. What a beautiful place this is, myself and my wife really enjoyed it and loved spending the afternoon pampering ourselves in the spa. Room was amazing with some we anniversary touches we got done including the swans and pettles on the bed for us which was so romantic and also wrote happy anniversary on the big mirror with some love hearts around it which was lovely. We are already thinking about booking for next year's anniversary aswell. Definitely recommend the mercure.

The spa was good, we pre booked our treatments, but they were moved by 30mins prior to our arrival which meant we had to change our meal booking for later on. We booked a twin room and arrived to a double room made up, (see picture) we went to reception and to compensate us we were offered a free drink (excluding fine wine, spirits and champagne). We booked early check in and that took 20mins to complete at a non busy time (arrive on plenty of time there was only one receptionist when we did...and check-in is open from 3pm usually and there are 2 check in desks). Out room was in the courtyard, it was on need of a little TLC (see room review)and was very warm, there was no aircon and the fan was too noisy to have on, even during the daytime, so defo not at night in the room...but there was an additional plug in radiator so it must get very cold in colder weather) there was an iron, ironing board and hairdryer supplied, and shampoo, shower gel and hand wash, nice quality.
The changing rooms for the spa need a serious upgrade, the looked like 1980 school ones, and the lockers are like a crystal maze puzzle to open and lock. The spa itself is downstairs and very relaxing the treatment rooms are air-conditioned which was nice as it was very hot everywhere else. The treatments me and my friend had were very different even though we booked the same ones but we're done by different people. ( some people had treatments cancelled when they arrived or moved to the following day). The relaxation room was lovely at the end of the treatment but we only had 30mi s in there before the spa closed. The pool was busy and had a very strong chlorine smell, and it also has family sessions which lead to the spar entry way becoming very congested. Some people got robes and towels included in their package but others did not, so check if not you can pay.for them I think it was either £5 of £7.50, same for towels and slippers.
The restaurant was understaffed, the greeter was rude and people were walking away and going to get takeout from places nearby. We waited with others for 20mins to be seated and we had all reserved our times, no one apologised for the wait, we were just greatest with name.l and shown to our table. Drinks were taken first and arrived quickly. We ordered starter and main and 40mins later hadn't even got our starter whilst others who arrived after had. It was hard to get staffs attention to check on progress except one guy who came over and resolved the problem quickly. By this time it was heading for after 9pm and we booked for 7.30. I cancelled my main, because it was too late for me to eat and my friend ended up getting a pizza In a Take out box as the restaurant was full even that took an additional 25mins.
Breakfast is self serve in the morning with a well stocked range of hot and cold food and juices and coffee. The man greeting and seating people was lovely much of an improvement over the night before.
Overall I wouldn't choose to stay here again as a first choice, for a Mercure hotel I expected better no matter what room you stayed in, based on past experiences. After the spa treatments you were given the sales pitch to try get you to buy the items used, which was a little overkill, the room not been set up as we had asked to start with them the issues with food in the restaurant just didn't make the overnight spa experience totally enjoyable for me.
Rooms: We had a standard room in the courtyard, it was showing signs of wear, the bathroom was outdated (big chunks of the door were missing from the bathroom side we stayed in room 41). Shower was in the bath and the bath was high to climb over into, people with mobility issues would struggle in this room. Beds were singles. The room was too hot even with the windows open all night. It did have usb sockets and plenty of plugs, and a massive TV which we were able to link up to. Did have good quality shower, hair and hand wash in rooms.
Food & drink: Food and drink onsite was not too badly priced for a hotel from what I saw it looked okay. The drinks were quite expensive. The starter I had was tasty and well presented Harris's hummus and garlic bread it was an okay portion size. The best meal was the breakfast. All the food was well stocked hot and cold, lots of fruits, yoghurts pastries, and your typical fry up. Toast was make it yourself but very quick to do, lots of different fruit juices as well as Ice water tea and coffee's. For food delivered to your room it's a £5 charge per person.
