Firstly Al say the cameo restaurant is excellent manager Shailesh tended to my ladies fish and nut allergy very well and unlike a lot of places she was allowed something she liked of all 3 courses staff lovey and very attentive.large rooms general nice place to stay had a full body massage witch was very professional. Therese is parts of the hotel that are need a little attention if you wanted to be fussy but never bothered us . The worse bit was the males changing rooms shut down so no mail toilets or lockers on pool or spa .but over all great value lovely food big rooms nice buffet breakfast would deffo return next year

The hotel still retains its former stately home ambience. From the moment we arrived Amy the receptionist was friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable. The restaurant was lovely and cozy and the 3 course evening meal was fantastic with all the staff efficient and friendly, even though it was an extremely busy night. Olivia served our table and she was professional and efficient. Overall a wonderful stay.

All the staff from reception, waiter and waitresses and also housekeeping were helpful and friendly. Only one niggle - the pool and jacuzzi were a tad cold - but did not spoil our stay. A big thank you to all for a relaxing stay.

The staff are the saviour of this hotel.
Some parts after the lock down refurb are really lovely.
The bar area, restaurant & furnishings etc.
However, some parts are just dreadful.
Little touches like at least hanging drapes properly in the windows of public corridors, instead of half on off the rail, clearly displays a total lack of attention to detail or lack of concern.
Paint peeling off walls, doors, sills, ceilings.
Totally appreciate the building is a listed building and in desperate need of work in some areas, and must need £100s of £1000s spending on it.
But dependent on where you are allocated, is dependent on what quality you get.
Our room was great, but clearly part of the refurb.
Some rooms however, clearly weren't.
Breakfast was plentiful, tasty, and enjoyable.
Staff absolutely fantastic & can't do enough.
The spa....errrrm...no.
Not for me.
Cold pool
Cold Jacuzzi
Cloudy water in pool
Didn't feel clean.
Lovely seating area as you go in.
But nothing relaxing about it at all, bright lights & chaotic.
This was a weekend though so probably quieter in week.
Would I stay again?
Yes.
But for such a beautiful building so worthy of being ' loved ' I can only hope further investment continues.
Big shout to the staff again though as you are a great team and couldn't have been more helpful.

Unfortunately we only stayed one night on the way home. We received a very warm and efficient welcome and were allocated room 210 which was large and well decorated (although two prints on the bedroom wall were a bit like the end of the world). The bathroom was a decent size with a good shower and lots of hot water. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows were, for me, most uncomfortable, but we had a good night's sleep. The evening meal was very good and the service was excellent.
Breakfast had a very good choice of food available and the hot items were well cooked. The breakfast service was overseen by Aziz who was very welcoming and very good at his job. The only slight problem is that some rooms are a long way away from the dining room and residents have to negotiate some very cold and draughty corridors although the bedrooms and public rooms were well heated. Would certainly stop here again, we enjoyed the peace and quiet.

The Mercure Dunkenhalgh (apparently, the gh is pronounced "sh") is near Clayton-le-Moors and Accrington, but you would need to get a minicab to either of them if you are of a certain age, as, for us, too far to walk. The old part of the hotel is quite beautiful and it has a large annexe, where our bedroom was situated. Our room was large and comfortable. The only complaint about the annexe would be that the doors are VERY noisy when shut and it gives you quite a jump every time someone enters or exits their room. The bar is quite dark and dominated by a TV, but the sound is low, so, if you can avoid looking at the screen, not too much of a problem. At weekends, they can have weddings, charity events, hen nights (wow, those girls can shriek!), birthday parties, etc., so, if you don't like noise, I would suggest visiting during the week. There was a charity event on the Saturday night we were there, for which they had a music licence until 1 a.m. and then fireworks! I have to say though that I put my earplugs in and it didn't greatly bother me. Apparently, they have a lot of football teams staying there and, indeed, Wigan Athletic FC were there on the Friday night we were there - lovely chaps and no trouble at all (I think the team went to bed early, in preparation for their match against Burnley the next day). The food is OK - could be warmer at times. Now for the big plus - all the staff are wonderful, from the bar staff to the excellent restaurant staff. They are all kind, friendly and can't do enough to please/accommodate even the most demanding guest! Special thanks to the lovely Krishna and Aziz - two lovely gentlemen.

Had a wowcher voucher for a spa morning .
Lovely hot stone message and the best afternoon tea I have had. All regular sandwich fillings. Loved all the deserts and requested plain scones. Everything eaten.

Stayed and continue to stay at this Hotel as it is ideally located for business. The hotel generally is good. The rooms are great but the bathroom/shower rooms are hit and miss unless you are located in the newer extension.

Gym facilities are great. Food is again hit and miss. The same meal can be amazing one stay and the total opposite the next. Not sure on the reasons for this.

It’s important to recognise Aziz who is terrific on Breakfast. He is a master at customer service and is a credit to the hotel. I have stayed in lots of hotels and his level of professionalism stands out.

Additionally Nicola does a great job on the front desk.

Small improvement on the above points would make a big difference to the experience at this hotel.

Attended today with 2 friends for a spa day. I’ll start with the positives, not bad value for money in terms of the treatments and lunch package, lunch area very nice, treatment area also very nice. The treatments were lovely, 2 of us went for the ishga face and body and 1 of us the hot stones massage. The changing rooms are tatty, not just run down but no light in a cubicle, plaster falling off the wall, a lot of things that could easily be rectified and properly maintained. The pool and jacuzzi (not really a jaccuzi just a couple of bubbles in the area of the pool) all the same cool temperature. The thermal suite 2x steam rooms and a sauna working. Another not working at all and the rest all bordered up. A member in there explained that as they stop working they just board them up. Had a nice day with friends in general and enjoyed our treatments and lovely lunch. The part that I found disgusting was the free £10 voucher you got to spend on products that we got with our package. I wanted an ishga toner that was priced at £28 so I thought would be £18 with redeeming my voucher. The therapist explained that the prices in the booklet already had the £10 taken off so it would make the ishga toner £38. I looked on the ishga website and they are priced at £28 so basically the voucher you get is just to rip you off, which is disgraceful and so I didn’t purchase it. I regularly attend spas where you get these vouchers and whilst they come with a minimum spend of £30, the products aren’t over priced. I would attend again for a treatment or lunch if I was in the area but would rather pay more for a proper spa with decent thermal facilities. Don’t mind a cheaper spa as it was a last minute booking-if it was properly maintained.
