It is always a joy to visit Herstmonceaux. The gardens change from season to season and one can walk for hours in the woods and fields. Dogs on leads are welcome and there is also a small playground and lots for children to learn about. Small cafe serving light meals, coffee, teas etc.

Great place for a day trip, the castle is a loving recreation, beautiful gardens, and the grounds around the castle are expansive and full of hidden gems which keeps you exploring.

The oldest red brick castle in England: need I say more? No. It's self-explanatory. You show up, you have a potter, you look at the gardens, you think to yourself "Wow, what must've it been like to be the owner of such a place and to have subsequently died at the supple age of 52 with gout?!".

We visited the castle for a medieval weekend on the August bank holiday Monday. WOW! Jousting, knights fighting, castle sieges, lots to do and lots to see. We took a picnic and sat watching the jousting. If you get to the arena early enough there were chairs to sit on. We spent some cash on Medieval honey, OMG it is fantastic, and my wife bought costumes for next years event. We will definitely be going again next year and hope to encourage the rest of our family to come too. A great day out for young and old alike.

Beautiful gardens, could not go into house. Had to pay for parking on top of entry fee. Cafe could do with update. Not much selection.

Cost us £8 each to get in and costs extra to go into the observatory. I wouldn't go again as it's literally the grounds that you see, you can't go into the castle.
I felt it was a lot of money just to see the gardens.
We only stayed about an hour.
It's fine if have heritage membership but it wasn't worth us paying for it as we don't have much time back at our own home town to do much sightseeing

Only visited the grounds as we were at the yearly Medieval festival. Which was excellent.
