We had a wonderful stay at Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa, thanks to the incredible staff.
Starting with friendly and welcoming Reception through to Allison in housekeeping, Aziz who looked after us so well at breakfast, the restaurant at night was professionally run by Krishna but the shining star who will have a great future in hospitality is Amanda. For someone so young she was superb. The only area that let this hotel down was the staff in the Spa Pool. They were so busy talking and laughing amongst themselves that I was an inconvenience to them when I arrived. I was not helped, given any instruction as to where the change room, locker room was etc and after a swim we attempted to walk out when a male staff member almost knocked me over by bowling through the door, never apologised but once again, laughing and carrying on with the girls on the counter. Despite this down side, would most definitely return thanks to the majority of the staff.

We purchased the spa & tea for two offer and we can't wait to come back! Fantastic spa facilities especially the sauna, wet room and the calming room which were spotlessly clean & modern. We even got to join in on an aerobic lesson in the pool for free which was an added bonus! A lovely staff member called Anne was so incredibly helpful and showed us all around the facilities. She provided us with exceptional service throughout our day. The tea, sandwiches and cakes are delicious and the changing rooms are also very spacious. We spent all afternoon here and can't wait to come back, exceptional value for money!

I attended a Christmas party with my partner. The food at the function was very bland and uninspiring, choice was poor. Service at the bar was slow, beer was full of froth, whisky & coke had about half a pint of coke in it, no ice offered. I ordered a bottle of prosecco, which was pricey at £29 and was completely flat, it was begrudgingly exchanged at the bar but the second one was just as flat - complete waste of money. Sound system for the disco was so poor you couldn't understand a word the DJ said. Felt like a regurgitation of a 1980s Christmas party.

Our bedroom was spacious, but a little more attention to cleaning and maintenance is needed. Hospitality tray was poor, no bottled water available in the room. Lots of noise from the function room, and the fire alarm going off twice during the early hours meant we didn't get a good sleep. Corridors were in need of a good clean and some redecoration.

Breakfast was average, the hot food tasted like it had been sat keeping warm for quite a while (tough bacon and hash browns etc). But the staff at breakfast were friendly and attentive.

Expensive for the quality of the room/ food/ function. Wouldn't choose to return

One night stay 11.12.22- 12.12.22 (couple)

From the minute you pull off the main road and into the long drive, you are rewarded with a site to behold. A stately manor hotel.

Staffing - exceptional in all departments. I hate to name check, as they were all brilliant, but Joseph, Megan and Aziz were absolutely outstanding. We were both made to feel welcome by the reception staff.

Executive room - Perfect, large, great view, king size bed, large mirrors and really pretty bathroom.

Breakfast well what can I say, it has everything, you name its in there. Including the nice little touches such individual pots of honey and jam.

Highly recommend this hotel and as the terminator says 'I'll be back'

Warm and welcoming, good food and the rooms are spacious. Lovely grounds and with the bonus of a pool and spa. Within easy reach of all areas of Lancashire, Cheshire and Liverpool. We enjoyed it and would stay there again.

The room had clearly been renovated recently however parts still looked a little tired (bathroom door was broken and didnt lock)
There needs to be a little more attention on the cleaning as there was dust bunnies in the bathroom and dust on drawer handles.
Never the less, the room was still warm and comfortable with great facilities (large TV, coffee machine, fridge, kettle etc) the dressing gown and slippers were a nice touch.
The hotel was having events (Christmas parties) on the night we stayed. They continued into to the early hours (even though the hotel information stated quiet time was between 10-7). This meant our stay wasnt as peaceful as we had wanted.
Perhaps it would have been an idea to put us at the other side of the hotel away from the noise. It may be worth checking if the hotel has an event on before booking.
We still managed to sleep okay and we loved the food!! The restaurant is a credit to the hotel!
The spa was okay, they had a burst pipe in the gym, i am guessing this impacted their heating as the pool was cold and the hot tub was chilly so not very comfortable to sit in. The sauna and steam room was lovely though. Its a shame hotel didnt live up to our expectations as we had hoped for a relaxing couples spa break.
Overall a little more attention to detail required. Perhaps asking guests if they are here for the parties or if they prefer a quieter room. There is so much potential with this hotel but at the moment a little overpriced for an underwhelming time.
