The room had clearly been renovated recently however parts still looked a little tired (bathroom door was broken and didnt lock)
There needs to be a little more attention on the cleaning as there was dust bunnies in the bathroom and dust on drawer handles.
Never the less, the room was still warm and comfortable with great facilities (large TV, coffee machine, fridge, kettle etc) the dressing gown and slippers were a nice touch.
The hotel was having events (Christmas parties) on the night we stayed. They continued into to the early hours (even though the hotel information stated quiet time was between 10-7). This meant our stay wasnt as peaceful as we had wanted.
Perhaps it would have been an idea to put us at the other side of the hotel away from the noise. It may be worth checking if the hotel has an event on before booking.
We still managed to sleep okay and we loved the food!! The restaurant is a credit to the hotel!
The spa was okay, they had a burst pipe in the gym, i am guessing this impacted their heating as the pool was cold and the hot tub was chilly so not very comfortable to sit in. The sauna and steam room was lovely though. Its a shame hotel didnt live up to our expectations as we had hoped for a relaxing couples spa break.
Overall a little more attention to detail required. Perhaps asking guests if they are here for the parties or if they prefer a quieter room. There is so much potential with this hotel but at the moment a little overpriced for an underwhelming time.

We had to wait for our evdn though we hot there at 3pm, no problem as we were given a free drink. When I returned to reception at 4pm I was thdn told they didn't have the room I requested...after a few mins, it was found. The building is old and due to the heavy rain there were buckets everywhere and damp marks.
In our room, none of the side lights worked but it was nice and big and away from any noise, albeit a trip on an outdoor (undercover) slippy path to reception and spa.
Not many vegan options for brekkie, no soya yoghurts and they ran out of marg for the toast but they did have plant based milks.
The main thing about this place is the staff...absolutely amazing. Friendly, efficient, chatty. An asset to Mercure.

We stayed Saturday night for my birthday…plus two friends. Gift in room totally unexpected and a lovely touch. Dispute disruption to spa due to refurbishment of changing rooms…great experience. Staff in spa Richard and Caitlin excelled. Evening dinner extremely good complimentary bottle of wine was most welcome. Service was excellent. Break fast was great and Iziz service was professional and friendly. We will definitely be back. We saw Nicola on reception on arrival and departure she was also brilliant. Thank you.

Booked a last minute overnight stay and so glad we did. Arrived early room ready which meant we had a little longer in the spa. Robes and slippers provided in the room, room decor great, everything we needed. The visit to the spa was excellent with everything clean & tidy, only downside was the ladies changing rooms being renovated so we all had to share a bedroom to get changed, when we left the spa I went back to my room in my robe. Deal came with a 2 course evening meal and complimentary bottle of prosecco. Food and service was very good and we couldn't fault anything. Breakfast the following morning again no faults, excellent buffet choice & hot food. All in all an excellent stay, yes there were some renovation works in and around the hotel which is the only reason i didn't give 5* at this particular time

We've just had a two night break away, bed, breakfast and evening meal, what a lovely stay we've loved every minute of it the staff was all very pleasant and helpful,
The facilities was spot on we used the gym , pool & sauna all lovely, the only downfall was the jacuzzi wasn't warm it was part of the pool , the ladies changing rooms were being renovated but suitable rooms was available for us to use ,
Our room was a good size with everything we needed, cleaned daily .
The restaurant was pleasant & friendly staff , the food was excellent & good selection on the menu, the bar area was very nice area to sit & relax after our evening meal .
I'd highly recommend staying here its been a lovely little break away .

Used the pool and spa on 9/1/23. Staff were great, organised and friendly. The treatments we had booked were good too, and prices reasonable.

However, the leisure club as a whole desperately needs a refurb: changing rooms in poor condition, lots of the chrome work rusty, mosaic tiles missing round the pool. A real shame as it's in a great spot and offered a good product for us wanting a half day spa experience. Is there a timescale for upgrading the site? Thanks

We stayed here for 5 nights in January. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and thought it was good value for money. The room was very spacious and we enjoyed the gym, pool and spa facilities.

All of the staff we encountered were very friendly. They were very quick to resolve a problem with our shower drain.

We were however disappointed with the food at lunch time which we ordered twice. On both occasions only select parts of the menu were available: sandwiches and side dishes.

The first time we ordered ploughman’s sandwiches - described as gammon, cheddar and pickle sandwiches with crisps. What arrived was grated plastic cheese mixed with pickle. When we questioned what had arrived they prepared it again but just added a slice of ham. Not exactly as described..

The second time we all ordered two side dishes at £5 each: chicken wings and a Greek-style salad.

After about 20 mins the chef came out and said he couldn’t do the Greek salad. We asked what other salads he could do to which he replied he could do a Caesar salad so we agreed to go with that. The food arrived and it was pleasant. However what was not so pleasant was the bill that arrived afterwards! To our dismay they had charged us £13 for the Caesar salad which was nothing more than leaves, 2 croutons and some shavings of Parmesan. We were never informed of the cost difference and reluctantly had to pay £18 instead of £10 each for our lunch.

This experience really did put a dampener on our stay I’m not sure I would return.

This was the second time we have stopped here. A great break away and a fantastic spa to truly relax. Staff are amazingly friendly and can't do enough to help or smile in your direction. Massive special thanks to Aziz, you were amazing and very character in so many ways. You made us all smile. Thank you so much.

Stayed here for a couple of weeks as working in the area. The rooms are comfortable and the evening meals and breakfast are good. All of the staff have been friendly and accommodating. Sara who works in the bar and restaurant seemed to go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome.
