Hotel was very easy to reach from the motorway. Impressive looking building although it looked in need of some TLC. Checkin was weird with the receptionist not really engaged and not acknowledging my loyalty. Room was a good size and very nice as was the bathroom with a bath and good sized shower. However, there was a large cobweb on the ceiling which I can’t believe had been missed by Housekeeping. Wifi in the room was non accessible so had to go up the stairs to the hallway to get a signal, and we were in an ‘Executive’ room. I asked reception if there was a way to fix this and they said they would have maintenance look at it. After more than an hour nothing had changed I went back to reception and was told it had been reported to the providers!! This is 2021, I have never experienced such a problem in any other Accor hotel. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but I requested a check out the next morning. The receptionist said he would have to check with the manager who then appeared and agreed to the early checkout with no other dialogue. As an Accor member I had booked the room on the Accor website and paid just over 100 pounds for bed and breakfast. I did some googling and found a 3rd party website offering Dinner, Bed and Breakfast for 2 for 110 pounds. This explained why the hotel was so busy and why the dining room was fully booked for dinner. The management are clearly not interested in loyal Accor members which is disappointing. It was also rather disturbing that hardly anyone was wearing masks or using sanitiser at breakfast. Bar and dining room both looked nice but overall this experience fell way beyond my expectations of Accor hotels.

My husband and I came for a couples spa break, having treatments and a swim, and then dinner and a night's stay in the hotel. Everything has been excellent - cannot recommend the treatments enough, we both had a facial and a back massage and it was all executed flawlessly. Very professional treatments with luxurious products. The spa staff were wonderful, friendly and very skilled. The swimming pool was great for a quick swim and the staff in the leisure area were all very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed.

The hotel looks like it might have recently been renovated because the dining area and bar are gorgeous - stunning colour scheme and pops of modern design which actually made me stop in surprise when we walked past it the first time. The dining staff were again very pleasant and attentive and the food was delicious - husband had the steak and I had the fish and both dishes were really satisfying, good portion sizes and literally no complaints.

Most wonderful part of our stay was probably our room - it was absolutely huge, beautifully decorated/furnished with an enormous TV. It was more like a suite than a room. The bed was huge as well and really comfy.

All in all I would definitely recommend this place, we will be coming back to repeat the experience for sure.

We arrived at the hotel 2 hours later than check in because there had been an incident on the M65. However, on arrival the receptionist was so friendly & helpful that we soon felt in the chill out mode. She also said if we needed any extras ie tea, coffee or tea or toiletries, we could contact reception 24 hours.
Our room was in the executive wing & was bright, clean & spacious & was lovely & warm. The room also had a table & 2 comfy armchairs, which made it feel more like a suite.
The restaurant & bar areas were both welcoming, both by the decor & the staff.
We ate in the restaurant both evenings of our stay & found the food to be extremely good & although there was no cheese on the dessert menu, when i explained that I was diabetic, the staff ensured I had a cheese plate complete with biscuits & fruit..
Breakfast was a buffet style continental, with the hot food being served by staff at the hot counter. Food was both plentiful & tasty & once again staff were on hand to provide assistance ie exra tea, coffee etc
All the staff from reception, dining, bar & cleaning staff were welcoming & friendly, whilst maintaining a professional approach.
Although the sauna & steam rooms were not in operation in the spa, due to a leak, this did not spoil our break.
In fact I will be returning with my friend in January for her 'special birthday;.
Can't wait to come back again. Thank you Mercure, Clayton le Woods!!

Spent one Friday night at the Mercure ahead of our son's wedding. Expected better, frankly from the pictures and four-star status of this hotel, although there was not really much to complain about. Room was fine, parking good, the restaurant food was adequate at best, I thought, and that included the breakfast. Amazing old building gone to seed a bit, lots of damp patches and long chilly corridors. Safe enough, but not quite the experience I was led to expect. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Spent 4 nights away, booked an executive suite. The room was amazing big bed, big TV , bath and shower, and a lovely view. This is the 6th time staying at the hotel. We have not done DBB before, the food was ok , but after the first 2 nights the menu was a bit small , they changed it over the weekend as well . We were on a 3 course menu, first 2 nights we could have anything of the menu, but the last 2 nights it was a set menu or an allowance of 22 pounds of the main menu, this was not as good value. Kyle and Dave in the restaurant made our stay they were great.

I was staying a single night on business and found the hotel to be of a good standard. My room was very large, clean and well appointed, albeit something of a walk from the reception area/restaurant/bar etc. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The pool was an added bonus, although it does get quite busy, so difficult to swim lengths..
The restaurant feels recently refurbished, and is bright and clean. The menu seemed somewhat limited, but the staff were very helpful in working around my garlic intolerance. Breakfast the following morning was very good, with a decent offering of both hot and cold options.
The bar is also very pleasant, and the bar staff very helpful and attentive.
Do make sure you check your car in on arrival to prevent a parking ticket. Despite the very obvious signage around the car park, there was an irate customer at reception when I arrived, very disgruntled that they hadn't been informed....
All in all, very happy with my stay, and I would stay here again.

Colleagues and I stayed here for 2 nights on business as it was conveniently located for my company's offices. I was given a room in the older part of the building and there's certainly evidence in the corridors of water damage.

The bedrooms are okay but with the main room light on are quite dark and there's no table light so working on a laptop so not easy, There was no hot water in the taps on my first morning but the shower was working fine although the pressure is pretty low.

The Bar area no longer serves food in the evening as it was quite nice to relax in the bar area with a meal and drink so you now need to go in the restaurant and book in advance if you want a table. Evening meal food quality was standard hotel fare and nothing spectacular. In fact other colleagues had very poor experience on their first night (items not available and very tough steak) and ate elsewhere in the area for the duration.

Worth noting that due to "covid" the rooms are not serviced unless you specifically request so you end up with the same towels, bins are not emptied and tea/coffee supplies are not replenished.

I can't fault the staff for their friendliness but there's to be more attention to the fabric of the hotel and overall guest experience needs to improve to justify 4 stars which is a shame as it's not as good as it was.

Cleanliness was very good. Areas were cold at times but then again we had just experienced a storm and snow! Out rooms were lovely and warm.

Food was fabulous and served with excellent etiquette ! I would give food 5 star and hotel 4 stars as it was chilly to sit and relax in lounges.

Unfortunately the spa experience had no sauna and steam room working :( so spa experience I would give 3 star. Massages were lovely though 👍

All in all staff very accommodating. A nice visit and would come again (when spa is fully functional)

Shout out to our waiter Shailesh and all staff and management for service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
