We visited these lovely gardens at the end of an August, that was hot and dry. Dispite the large mill ponds the gardens were deeply affected by the unusally hot June and July, and so were past their very best. This is particularly true of the roses. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful place to visit with many attractive and borders, and ornamental garden features. Lovely afternoon in the sun, slowly walking around admiring some very imaginative planting in glorious somerset countryside.

Whilst on our visit to Taunton, my wife had recommended that I create a TripAdvisor account, so that I can document our experiences, and show our family back in London what an amazing time we had.
Hestercombe Gardens is such a beautiful area to spend the morning. All staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. A lovely afternoon out, which was finished off perfectly, by a coffee in their on site cafe! š

Very interesting gardens wonderful design and planting scheme. A lovely place to spend a day with plenty of formal gardens and wilder areas.

These are lovely gardens, but wheelchair access is limited. The Orangery is only accessible by tackling a flight of steps, and when I asked a staff member about the possibility of a ramp I was told that āHestercombe donāt do rampsā. I find this disappointing as there is space to improve the access, so I hope the management will review the situation.

This is a must for anyone loving Gardens,woodland walks and exploring.Used regularly by locals for dog walking.
Reasonable coffee shop if not a tad slow,where isn,t?
Lovely to hear history of this place,see how it is lovingly being restored If anyone lives locally while worth becoming member as place you revisit every month and something would be different .

Main attraction is Lutyens/Jekyll designed terraced gardens brought back to near original designs but the 18th century landscaping in the valley is a tour de force of reconstruction with attractions like 'gothic' Alcove, witches hut and Sibyl's Temple constructed near to original appearance. They all look very new at the moment but will probably weather well. Cascade (largest in Somerset) was not working when we visited due to lack of rainfall but the situation was impressive. Many interesting features explained in videos. Orangery available for weddings with large lawn sharing the great views over Taunton vale.

Iām a regular visitor to Hestercombe. The gardens are stunning & so peaceful to walk around. Iāve got a membership so I can visit all year round for free.
Well behaved dogs on leads are very welcome.
Lovely cafe and gift shop at the entrance.
Very friendly staff.
This weekend I visited when the Taunton Toad sculptures were being auctioned off for charity. It was great seeing them all in one place.

My wife, my dog and myself came to Hestercombe for the third year running albeit a week or two later than usual. We were not expecting to see rows of floral beds in full bloom and were not disappointed. What we did see was a formal garden in its transition from one season to the next. The upper level was full of regimental winter flowering plants and not a weed in sight. The lower garden had begun to turn but this was to be expected. I don't like wandering around gardens but I have to say that Hestercombe is slowly changing my mind.
The walk through the grounds and visiting the numerous follies on the way is a good place to stretch your legs and exercise the dog (dog poo bins available). Our dog is now a little too old to manage the whole route so we stayed to the lower levels today. The cafe too is very reasonably priced and has a good friendly atmosphere created by the staff.
