I have stayed at the Mercure Georgian around six or seven times in the last two months. During this time I have also stayed at the De Vere Whites Hotel, Reebok Stadium, and also the Holiday Inn in Bolton centre. Overall, this hotel is, in my opinion, the best in the area.
The Mercure is located in the perfect position, only a two-minute drive to the M61 motorway, yet set in it's own picturesque grounds with peace and tranquility.
The hotel has a large, free, car park with ample car parking spaces. The reception is spacious, welcoming and there is always a member of staff to help with any queries.
The standard double or twin rooms are large and spacious with the usual complement of tea/coffee making, toiletries, flat-screen TV etc. If you rrequire an iron/ironing board or anything else for that matter simply ask reception and it's done for you. Nothing seems to be a problem.
Breakfast is buffet-style with a fine choice of juices, fresh fruits and all you can eat from the hot cooked buffet, of which the quality is also high, not the usual run-of-the-mill cheap produce that is served up in many hotels.
An added bonus is the leisure facilities which are included in the price of your stay. There's the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and a good-sized gym should you wish to use it.
Having said all of the above the hotel's strongest point, in my opinion, are the staff, who are polite and helpful at all times, this applying particularly to a guy called Andrew who runs the bar/lounge.
You could not wish to meet a more sincere, genuine, helpful person. He goes way, way beyond the call of duty to help and assist you whenever possible.
From my very first visit here he advised me of the local area, amenities and answered all my questions thoroughly and concisely. This guy is the ultimate professional - courteous, friendly and runs the bar and lounge meticulously at all times, whilst making you feel welcome and comfortable.
It is always a pleasure when I stay at the Georgian and I am sure you will receive and experience the same should you choose to stay here.
To the management of the Georgian: "Keep up the same standards and please pass my gratitude to Andrew for all his help during my stays".

Good location, close to Motorway links both North and South and Reebok stadium. overlooking very pleasant scenery. Plenty of free parking to rear of the hotel. Gym, swimming pool, sauna etc complimentary to guests. Nicely decorated and staff very pleasant. Recommend booking bed and breakfast as breakfast is quite expensive at £13.95. We stayed for 2 nights in the annexe at the rear of the hotel, very quiet, and scrupulously clean, however the room was small. Complimentary tea and coffee in rooms. Good quality furnishings and flat screen tv but free wi-fi only available in main foyer. Breakfast room very good and plenty of choices for breakfast. Bar/restaurant in front of hotel but we did not use the facilities. Will deffinately return to this hotel as visit Bolton regularly , really enjoyed our 1st stay here. Close enough to shops and stadium as well as town centre but far enough away to enjoy a bit of peace and quitet.

I have stayed here with work 5 times in last last couple months. The service is good and its priced competitively. Also the breakfast is excellent. The two problems with the hotel are firstly it doesn't have air con and the hotel rooms are absolutely red hot. The window only opens about 6 inches and I could hardly sleep.

The second problem is the food. Although the service is very good the food is pretty awful value for money, the stone baked pizza for about £13 is basically just a frozen iceland pizza! I had a chicken breast burger for about the same price and it was dry - a massive bread bun and small bit of chicken. Also the sirloin steak again was poor especially for £20.

Finally there is a gym and pool which are okay but on 2 occasions when I was staying the female lockers were being fixed and so men had to use the females lockers and females the males. This would have been okay except there was nobody on the reception at the gym and men kept walking into the male lockers whilst women were getting changed !!! I'm sure there must have been some official complaints, this is pretty bad.

To summarise id recommend staying here but not in the summer and find somewhere else to eat.

Whilst my wife ane I enjoyed our stay, overall, we have the following points to mention:

1. Upon arrival, we were taken aback to find that, even on a Sunday, there were two(!) wedding receptions taking place on the ground floor of the hotel. Despite assurances, these clould be heard, and felt resonating through the walls, even in our top-floor room. However, on the plus side, they were not over-intrusive and did end , as advised at 01:00.

2. The room was tiny and, I fely, poorly lit.
3. Although comfortable, the bed springs were noisy and clearlty in evidence when getting in or out of bed.
4. The hotel was well-maintained with ample parking.
5. The breakfasts wer amazing, both in respect of quality and quantity.
6. Free wi-fi was available only in the Lounge. It would have been nice to have it free in the room.

WE WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN.

1st impressions last:
1. we had to wait a considerable time to be served on our arrival - there was only 1 person in reception (there was a wedding party/reception due later which may have accounted for the understaffing.
2. there were lots of flies buzzing around in reception
3. we arrived at 13:00 - fortunately 1 of our rooms was available but we were made aware that there was no guarantee that the 2nd room would be ready for 14:00 (not what you want to hear when a family of 5 have to get unpacked and ready for a wedding at 15:30)
4. at time of booking we had requested adjoing rooms as our 2 youngest children are 4 & 5 - unfortunately the rooms we were allocated were not adjoining, there weren't even opposite.
5. The double room we were allocated when we 1st arrived had a very strong smell of cigarette smoke - when we complained about the condition we were told that the problem was known and that the window had been open all morning and that air freshener had been used to get rid of the smell. We were appalled that the hotel management saw fit to allocate the room to any customers in it's condition.

Anyway, that's the bad bit...
What was altogether much better was the service we received after we made our complaint:
1. The housekeeper was very courteous and owned the problem - this allowed us to go out for a quick bite to eat (we'd travelled for over 2 hours to get there!) whilst they resolved the issue.
2. When we got back, we were told that we had been allocated adjoining rooms and the Manager made a personal check of the rooms before inviting us to our new rooms.
Our new rooms were clean and smelled fresh - we were pleased to personally thank the housekeeper.
3. We were able to get ready in time for the wedding and we couldn't fault the hotel after this point:
> The hotel was very convenient for attending the Brinsop Arms where the family wedding was taking place.
> It was quiet when we return from our wedding and we all had a good night's rest
> the breakfast experience was very good - wide range of food, readily available and freshly cooked
> we even took advantage of the hotel's pool after checking out on the Sunday

In summary: a good experience despite the initial issue but the Hotel management should not forget that '1st impressions last'!
