A colleague and I stayed here for 2 nights recently. He stayed outside the main building and said he felt the hotel was tired in places and his dinner was "good" rather than "great". I however stay in a *lot* of hotels and I could find pretty much nothing wrong with the Mercure, when compared to many others I've stayed in.

The hotel was clean and tidy throughout, and all of the staff I encountered were welcoming and friendly. They even found stuff I left behind in the room, and handed it to my colleague to retun to me (I left before him).

I was in the main building and the room was huge and perfect for working in the evening. Unlike in many hotels, the lighting was excellent, there was a good-sized desk/table, and the wifi worked quickly and flawlessly. If you're not a fan of squeezy-bottle soap, you might be happy to know that Mercure still provides a small bar of soap and little bottles of shampoo etc. Personally, I prefer anything that helps the environment and reduces waste, so squeezy-botles are ok by me.

I could see my room looked out onto the road, but I am a light sleeper and didn't hear any traffic noise overnight. My colleague and I also used the pool/sauna facilities and they were clean and tidy and perfectly adequate for an in-hotel facility that is free for hotel guests. (Suggestion: maybe have a bigger clock in the pool area?)

Dinner - especially the soup - was very tasty and there is a good selection of breakfast items. The breakfast was also included in the room price - unlike another hotel very near by, which wanted to charge us another £10 per night for breakfast. Luckily we discovered the extras before we booked there, and so we came to the Mercure instead.

The bar selection isn't massive, but all the usuals were there. If you do prefer to eat out, there's an excellent restaurant 5 minutes walk along the road. There are also some chain restaurants a short drive away.

So, a very nice stay, well worth 4 stars, and I would stay there again without hesitation. Thanks to all the staff, front and back-room. Well done.

Had a 7am circuit class from Dave last Friday,25th October. One of the toughest training sessions I’ve ever had. Dave is a brilliant instructor who knows his stuff.
His classes are very structured and well run.
I’d highly recommend Dave as a first class fitness trainer.

Good facilities (well kept and clean) and location.
Excellent range of classes provided and delivered to a high standard.
The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable (Gary, Simon, Dave and Kelly) and easily approachable.
I enjoy going for a swim, steam and Jacuzzi after a gym workout (sauna also available)
Loads of free parking.
Would highly recommend a visit.
Thanks

Stayed here on 29th Jan and was adequately happy with my stay. Parking seems to be restricted to only a few right outside the hotel, otherwise it's a trek across the road into the multi-storey. I'm not sure if you have to pay here but you certainly need a permit to park there so arrive early for a spot outside the hotel.

The guy that greeted me advised me to park on the double yellow lines in the car park, when I went to change parking spaces from the multi-storey there was an empty parking space, so thanks to the receptionist for the tip.

Room was pleasant enough and done the job. Breakfast was good along with some happy helpful staff which always makes a massive difference.

Its a Holiday inn, you know what you're getting when you stay here.

I could be extra picky. Ideally, Id like more in the free tea/coffee tray rather than enough for one cup. The bathroom could've been a bit bigger but as a place to crash, its ideal. £50 was definitely worth the money.

The parking isn't great though. That needs to be looked at.

I stayed there during the month of May-June 2013 for 4 days. Rooms are too small. Location is very good just near the Tithebern bus stop. The entrance is a bit confusing. But overall it is good one. Cleanliness is up to a very good degree. Breakfast was nice.

I stayed here at the start of February for the one night. A friendly welcome was offered on arrival and I was checked in quickly.

The room as others have said was a little on the small side, however I was only there the one night and it wasn't too much of an issue as it was clean and well maintained with no visible housekeeping problems.

Clean bedding and towels were available and the bed itself was very comfortable, I had a good nights sleep with no disturbances which is always impressive for a Saturday evening in a town centre location.

I ordered room service which was delivered promptly and was of good quality. There is a very good choice of dishes on the menu with something to suit all tastes. Breakfast in the morning was very nice. It is a buffet, however the was a very good choice of dishes available which was replenished regularly in small batches.

Checking out in the morning was quick and hassle free whilst I was thanked as I left.

One thing I noticed which is strange with this hotel is that there is only standard rooms available, normally Holiday Inns have a choice of at least two (Standard and Executive etc).

Overall a good stay and I would be happy to return in the future.

Great breakfast ten out of ten. I really enjoyed that in the morning I left. lovely clean rooms, lovely staff. Would recommend again. Only concern was its slighty out of the centre had to hop onto taxis to get about. Otherwise great place.

Needed an overnight in Preston to appear in Court. This one was right across the road from the Crown Court and turned out to be good value. Although right on the road, it was very quiet and got a good night's sleep. Room well appointed and reasonably large. Good shower. Reasonable dinner ( fish and chips) but a bit expensive for what it was. Staff helpful and friendly. Overall a good choice.

Stayed for one night on business. I arrived at the hotel and the car park was full, they have an overflow car park locally. When I was checking out people had got parking tickets, I later found out that if you park in the overflow car park you have to get a special ticket from reception.

Check in was fast once they found my booking.

Room was clean and tidy.

Ordered room service was very quick and food was very good.

Overall a good stay.
