Stayed here during business trip. Room only. No advice given from staff on anything other than directions to room. No offer of adding breakfast option during stay. Basic room, although very clean and warm. Scolding shower which you have to muck about with to get steady control. Wardrobe doors un-closeable, drawers a struggle to open and wifi is poor.

I stayed for a night on business and the hotel was just the job. The room was comfortable, well appointed and clean. The staff were friendly and the car park was a good size (too many hotels have car parks that are too small and are full if you arrive too late!)

Attended a friends wedding here last weekend and had a fabulous time. The staff were fantastic at looking after all the guests and were made to feel like no request was too big or too small - the lady who seemed to be running things was really on the ball!!
Bar prices were a tad pricey but similar to that of any hotel.
Didn't stay for the night so can't really comment on the rooms but friends said they were comfy and clean.

The Hotel was mostly fine but was not so good on small items. the resturant needs to be beter organised. It is pointless gettng guests to complete a menu without subsequently being able to dentfy them and seven pece of aple with a couple of other fruits does not make a fruit salad also a wider selection on he menu would have been more helpful.
Checking guests out before they leave seems silly.

Stayed for two nights, rooms very comfortable, beds nice and spacious for doubles. Bathroom a little dated with shower over bath, lots of wasted room in bathroom that would suit walkin shower.

Food is very good with great choice. Beer very expensive, even staff said that's the biggest complaint from everyone who stays.

But will stay again soon.

Stayed on a Saturday night just before Christmas. The hotel was booked for us by a third party. The cost was £150 and whilst one can understand market forces, the quality of accommodation did not reflect the high price. As a regular hotel user around the country, I was surprised at the high tariff given the location. The staff were friendly and pleasant enough but the fixtures and fittings were dated and tired.
Ironically we stayed local to an event to save a £40 taxi ride....as they say in Manchester"that'll learn yer!!"

Have just returned from a two day travel club mystery with Gardiners N M C Coach Holidays. The hospitality shown both on the coach and at the hotel was first class. The excursion stops on both days was superb. The hotel was first class, evening dinner (Christmas dinner) was excellent, reception, staff, rooms, brilliant. Hats off to Adrian and his staff of Gardiners, cannot praise them enough. I will definitely be going again( have already booked) value for money.

Visited Mercure on Christmas day, and wasn't what I expected for the price. On first impressions the room looked very smart. Although the room was visually pleasing, the table was cluttered with all the coffee cups, mince pies, and things that should have been brought out at the end of the meal. Leaving no room for the vegetables to be put on the table. This brings me to the next point, we had 1 bowl of vegetables and 1 bowl of roast potatoes (around 9) between 11 of us. When we brought this to their attention, it took nearly 15-20 minutes to bring extra portions, by then most of us had finished our meals. Leaving many of us without roast potatoes and veg until the end of the meal. Also when we brought it to their attention that there was not enough veg and potatoes to go around, the woman did not seem bothered. We did bring this to the attention of someone higher, who did apologise for this and offered us some free drinks as an apology. Also I was really surprised that no staff were waiting on drinks, if you needed a drink you had to go to the bar yourself, which wasn't a great problem however it would have been nice. The food was nice, but nothing more than what you would expect from your local pub, which is a quarter of the price. So overall I've given Mercure a 3 star as it was okay, however I don't think i will be going back there in the near future.

On arrival our group was greeted very warmly and efficiently. Staff were helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Food was plentiful and well prepared. Our room was very comfortable, clean and had every facility we needed, including heating.
The only slight disappointment was in the amount of charges in the bar. It is accepted that these charges are not the fault of the staff, but I do feel they are a little higher than they need to be. In the area where I live a tonic water costs maximum of £1.60 in a good hotel, whereas in this hotel it was £2.10 for the same item. If one needs to drink wine purchased in the hotel, I would suggest a fairly well stocked wallet is needed.
