When staying away for a night or two my expectations of a decent hotel is that I can get a good night's sleep, have a good shower and that they serve a decent breakfast. The breakfast was five star, a superb range of items to help yourself to that all looked fresh. One of our party asked for something else and it was provided without a problem. The shower was also top notch. I'm 6ft4 and hate it when I have to crouch under a shower that dribbles out water at varying temperatures. This was high enough to accommodate me, showered water properly and and at an easily changeable temperature. So 5/5 for two of my personal criteria, but what about a good night's sleep? Well the bed was certainly comfortable, and the pillows were firm too. There was no noise from outside the building or room; however, upon arriving I noticed there was a noise created by the wind outside that was so loud it drowned out the TV. When coming back from grabbing a bite to eat it was still present. It didn't actually stop me from falling asleep, though the person I shared the room with complained to me that it did interrupt heir sleep. By morning the noise had gone, and we presumed that it was caused by the curved shape of the building coupled with wind direction. No-one else in our party had any such noises in their rooms. Basically I enjoyed the stay but have to make you aware that there is the possibility of the wind noise problem. It wasn't paid for by me so I cannot comment on value for money.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Preston on the nights of 12th and 13th November. All the hotel staff were pleasant and friendly. I was in room 505 which was clean and very comfortable. I ate in the bar area both evenings and had two very enjoyable fish meals. The breakfasts were brilliant, so much choice and well presented.
The only downside to the hotel is the parking. I arrived at 19.00 on the first night and the car park which only accommodates around 30 cars was packed solid. I was told I could park in the bus station car park which wasn't ideal as I felt it was not secured. On the second evening I managed to find a small area in the car park in which to squeeze in my Smart Car.

I am going to declare bias. I lived in Lancashire for most of my adult life and I love Lancashire and all who live there. On the other hand I have really bad memories of Preston bus station on a windy rainy winter's day. And this place is next to the bus station.

Ok, this hotel is next to the bus station, arguably the most windy in europe and suffers from being "modern" and the hotel next to it fits in perfectly. Totally without any redeeming architectural features.

BUT. if you need to be in Preston or it is remotely convenient for you to be there then I can recommend this place. The rooms are excellent and if the one I was in was anything to go by then they are well appointed and well maintained. Fabulous mattress and pillows, nothing to moan about there.

We were on a DBB on a coach trip........normally a precursor to a disaster story............well all get back in your boxes. Dinner was superb, breakfast was magnificent.

This place is offering a good value stay in the main. Don't drink there for heaven's sake. Find a Weatherspoon's or go teetotal. Booze is a complete rip off...........................if you can get someone to serve you.

And if you are there on a Sunday morning, leave early, they start singing hymns (of a sort) on the ground floor and it's not a good sound.

One final point. For a hotel opened in 2001, the glazing is pure 1977. Must have been a leftover. It works, just archaic.

xx

Great Hotel In The Heart Of The City!

This large Holiday Inn is situated in the heart of Preston. Reception is on the first floor, lifts or stairs were available.

Wifi in the room was free using an ethernet cable.

Parking was very limited but staff allowed us to park on a 'drop off' area overnight.

Breakfast was great, and eat all you want buffet style.

A much better option than the poor/average Holiday Inn Lancaster just up the road!

We go every Thursday for a swimming lesson. My husband goes in the pool and I have a quiet tea, which away from my 1 year old is very rare.

Alex the guy with the fabulous hair on the bar, always welcomes me with a smile and knows my order off by heart. He always says hi and has a quick chat even though he’s always busy.

He’s a great guy and I always look forward to my Thursday yea when he’s working.

The breakfast manager Lydia and reception manager were excellent - two friendly, efficient ladies who were a pleasure to deal with. The other staff all friendly and helpful. For the price, it's not bad value, but the place sorely needs a refurb. Long snag list I reported. The rooms are not touched during your stay due, apparently, to covid. I suspect staff shortages an issue. The pool etc all closed due to covid "until further notice". The traffic noise is quite disturbing and only one toaster and coffee machine could be difficult on a busier morning. With some investment from Accor, it could be very good.

This was my first visit to this hotel. Stayed for two nights. Lovely welcome from reception staff on arrival. Given precise instructions on how to get the room. Lovely twin room. Beds really comfortable. Shower had good water pressure.
Met the manager who was also very friendly and helpful. Lots of knowledge of the local area which was very helpful.

Stayed here for the first time in a good few years. Bedrooms are a little dated but still acceptable but probably due a refurb before too long - No electric sockets near the bed in my room was probably the biggest pain point but not a major issue. Ate in the bar and food choices, quality and prices were good. Best feature of the hotel are the staff - Rarely have I encountered such friendly, helpful and attentive staff in all areas of a hotel. Made me feel very welcome and valued as a customer
