I visited on a wet day and it was nice to go somewhere interesting to learn more about the local area and dry out a little.

I was encouraged to check in using the Serco Track & Trace app. The museum is free to visit although you can make donations by cash and also contactless.

The museum has lots of different things to learn about if you are an adult or a child. I also enjoyed the Jacobean garden.

The museum is very user friendly for anyone whether they are able to use steps or not.

The second floor has more to explore and I was interested in the Addis collection. I never knew there were so many different toothbrushes!

There is a small area to buy gifts and the staff were all friendly and welcoming.

Had low expectations from a small museum and was impressed by the content and presentation. The write-ups about local resistance and protest movements were interesting. Liked the audios by local people about wartime and other topics. Some good mid-20c artefacts and everyday items were good and nostalgic. Thought my visit would be 15 minutes but spent an hour and will go back again as there is more to see and read. Altogether quite an ikoressive little museum.

Outstanding local Museum. It brings Hertford's past to life. Very good temporary exhibitions. Also very good booklets on Hertford's past. Produced in house.

The museum includes a range of exhibits including those related to the birth of the town and the Hertford pubs. The pubs, then known as Inns, once totalled 25 in 1620. At this time Hertford had more coaching inns that anywhere else in the country and with terminus for 5 coaches going to London, this makes sense. Of these Inns only 3 survive today. There is also a cool model of the castle and a Jacobean Knot Garden.
Entrance is free but donations are appreciated.

In October 2017, Liam D said about Hertford Castle
Visited the Castle building for the first time recently and I was very surprised at how well it is maintained and how much history is attached to it dating back as far as the 10th century. It has had a long association with various Kings and Elizabeth 1 was a frequent visitor. The names associated with the castle also give their names to buildings in the area like the Salisbury, Cowper Arms and the College Arms. There is an interesting visual presentation of the history of the castle in a 10 minute video. The robing room for the Mayor is interesting as is the tour of the dungeon area. The castle grounds have the River Lea flowing alongside and the gardens are well maintained. The castle grounds are the site for various events during the year such as Rock at the Castle and the Food and Drink Festival. Well worth a visit at any time, but especially if combined with one of the above. It is also a wedding venue and accommodates the Hertford Town Council. A visit can last up to an hour or longer if all the historical information is studied. Entry is free, but a donation for the upkeep of the building is welcomed.

This venue is very versatile. Good for business meetings, reunions etc as well as weddings and parties. Reasonable rates and the staff are professional and helpful.

The location is amazing, beautiful grounds and right by town centre so easy to access.

I've been to a few events here and have never been disappointed.

The grounds are lovely and the castle is of course beautiful.
