Had lunch in the castle gardens which are beautiful. Has ducks in the river and a children's play area.

Lovely quaint historical location. Signs explaining the history all over the area and mostly tucked away from Hertford's town center. Great location for a summer's walk 😊

Great gardens to chill and relax while catching rays in spring and summer. Lots of ducks, geese and swans to look at. Just be aware of the gate closing times at different times of the year.

Hertford castle annual car show is a small but interesting day out with a mix of car's from very early examples to modern day UK and American hand built custom rods to factory built everyday cars. There are little gems of all types. During the show the castle is open for visits and there are food stalls and live music.

I have lived ten miles from Hertford and in the ten years I have been here I never ever knew that Hertford had the remains of a large Norman castle! This lies within a charming park adjacent to the river Lea with a substantial gothic house in the architectural style of John Nash. Many of the original ramparts and surrounding walls are intact as well as semi fortifications. The environs around the castle are charming with a mixture of Georgian, Victorian and jettied architecture. Hertford a forgotten town is well worth a visit
