I stayed here for one night working away from home. The reception I received was friendly but not pally which is fine. I couldn’t get into my room as I did arrive early so staff were happy for me to sit in the dining area to work.
The reception, communal toilets, bar and dining area are aesthetically pleasing with nice decor throughout. The furniture is robust and nicely matched, really nice.
When I got to my room, it wasn’t quite as nice as the ‘showy’ public areas, but still pleasant enough.
My room was a good size with a double bed, desk/dressing tab, and bedside cabinets. Not new for sure, some scuffs here and there, I guess to be expected. A built in wardrobe and small tv, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and tea/ coffee making facilities. Great. The view was into the fields which was lovely but the pervading noise of traffic reminded me how close to the roads we were.
The carpet was beige, stained here and there, again I guess to be expected. The bed linen was ok and clean. Whilst the pillows were uncomfortable, the bed comfortable and I slept ok.
The bathroom is nicely tiled with a bath and shower.
Now the detail and the Devil…
Above the bed there were significant sized cob-webs, and when looking closely it is clear the whole room and bathroom needs a good clean. There was heavily laden dust on the skirting in the bathroom, not nice. It’s all a little tired and drab.
The food however was really nice, good portions although a bit big for me, however I suspected the thick cut chips were frozen, not nice.

The communications and social media staff member was chatting to me and my colleague as we sat outside in the afternoon / evening sun for a break, and she was lovely, very chatty and clearly passionate about her work. Apart from her and the afternoon / evening receptionist, relations appeared a little forced. Shame, as the ‘suits’ who I took to be the owners seemed to have no passion for their work, although after saying that one lady who appeared to be senior did apologise as I had relayed my disappointment on check out.

At breakfast the next day the table we were given was dirty with drink stains from the previous night. The seats in the booth were also stained.
There were COSHH cleaning materials openly next to the bread basket and toaster, one even with decanted sanitiser which actually breaches COSHH regulations. In fact they should not be openly available on show.

I would return here if I was in the area as it is convenient and not too bad, despite my comments. Maybe my expectations around cleanliness are too high, although there really is no excuse for dirty kick boards on doors, dirty furniture where someone has clearly spilled a drink, torn wallpaper, thick dust and cobwebs.

We dined at Oscars for my daughter in law’s birthday on 27th July. The food was fabulous and the service was spot on. Very good size portions. One of the best sea bass we have had. Ribs were juicy and tender and chicken wings were perfectly cooked.

I stayed here with my partner. Chef was kind enough to prepare a special request. Food was gorgeous, cocktails were amazing and they have a very good wine list. Staff was very attentive. Can’t wait to return.

We had our wedding here on 19th August and I cannot thank them enough. It was amazing from start to finish. Always there when needed and nothing was a problem for them. The venue looked gorgeous. Made what could possibly be a stressful time organising just perfect with no stress what so ever. The hotel rooms was lovely and clean and the food is just amazing. Thank you again for everything.

We travel to the north of England on a regular basis and have over the years and have been on occasion very dissatisfied.
Needing to stay in Bury this August we decided to try The Red Hall hotel and was absolutely delighted we did as from our initial greeting with the receptionist we had a brilliant stay.
Very clean and comfortable room, excellent food and and drink along with the most helpful staff.
The young girl who served our breakfast was certainly in the right job, many thanks.
Would we stay again?a great big yes, already looking forward.
Many thanks to everyone for making our stay memorable for all the right reasons🤗

Thanks to browser we found this hotel for on overnight stay last week on a trip round RHS gardens. The hotel was easy to bok directly on internet. The welcome was first class. The food in Oscar's Restaurant was some of the best we have experienced recently supported by sensitive service.
I would not hesitate to visit again or recommend.

I recently attended a wedding here - as a guest it went really well. The food was excellent, the rooms, whilst a ittle snug, are very clean and have everything you need. Why then the title of 'benefit of the doubt'?

As part of the wedding party and seeing the stress placed on the poor bride/bridegroom in the run up to the wedding I can only guess that the lack of availablity of experienced staff was the only reason that the admin and organisation (or lack of it) was so poor.

The event organiser/planner changed three times during the course of the booking - none of whom left handover notes. The rooms for guests, booked months in advance, were not actually booked and indeed my own early check in - arranged in advance - didn't happen. Not helpful when you've travelled a fair way for a wedding taking place at 2pm and you don't get into your room until 1pm :-I The reception staff probably need some training in communicating politely even when they are busy :-(

Having said that there were some exceptional staff on the day - Warren, all the bar staff, the restaurant manager and his staff serving the wedding breakfast and finally the tall canadian (?) waiter in the main restaurant all did a great job and should be commended for their professionalism!

Would I recommend it - probably. It's the best of what is available locally - and on the day they pulled together to make it work :-I
