I frequently stay here in a Privilege room as that way you get Wi-Fi and movies included within your room rate as well as a larger room and it makes for a nicer stay.
The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable and come with handy toiletries in the bathroom and if you forget anything e.g toothbrush you can buy this from reception.
The lobby bar is open plan and has no atmosphere and service can be a little on the slow side as staff have to multi task.
The food is nothing special on my last stay I had one of their speciality burgers it was overpriced and very average, in fact the hand cut chips were clearly thrown into fat that wasn’t warm enough to cook them, yet they were served to me limp and soaked in grease.
Breakfast which was freshly cooked to order as not a lot of guests were staying in the hotel was clearly provided via a deep fat fryer, really not the standard you expect.
I will stay here again but I will be giving the restaurant a miss.

Nice big clean room, a bit dated but fine. Asked for and got a room at back of hotel overlooking Rivington. Thanks to Carrie on reception for that. All staff were friendly. Food was good breakfast is buffet style. As with most hotels drinks are expensive. But there is a pub called the poacher about 10 mins walk away a bit old fashioned but very friendly, drinks reasonably priced and a good selection of real ales. There is a retail park about 5 mins drive away which also homes a cinema and bowling alley, and Boltons macron stadium.

Mercure Georgian House at Bolton is absolute value for money, just £67 for a Saturday night stay - clean room with everything I needed (nothing fancy but definitely comfortable) and such genuine, friendly, helpful hotel staff!
It's not a luxury hotel, but neither are the prices.. And this was honestly some of the loveliest customer service I've had in a hotel in a long time. Well done Mercure at Bolton!

Clean and tidy but a bit worn around the edges. As a business stay this hotel provided all I needed, comfy bed, free wi-fi, decent bar meals and all at a very reasonable price. Also has decent leisure facilities if you feel that energetic after a day's work. Will stay here again.

Me and my partner shared a double room for my works do. Our room was lovely, great size and was a lot nicer than when we first stayed a long while ago. Staff are under new management I believe and was ordering people out of rooms and frequently confronting people about if they're drinking the bars alcohol and not bringing in their own. The bare is ridiculously over priced so it's virtually impossible to have more than a couple without being a millionaire. However, I do understand that they have to be vigilant as it is their rules but maybe if prices were more reasonable, people wouldn't have to take their own. Even staff agreed it was extortionate!
The hotel itself if lovely and great facilties, for example restaurant and pool.
Breakfast was absolutely stunning. Would stay again.

I stayed here on business at the recommendation of a friend who's son used to work here.

I can't fault the level of customer service, and the standard of the accommodation. Although the room I stayed in was a little tired and the decoration bland, it was spotless, the bed was very comfortable.

The food in the restaurant was amazing and the service again was great, and I would recommend eating here, just sad I didn't have room for a sweet, they looked delicious!
Breakfast was buffet style, but everything was hot and the quality was brilliant, coffee was free flowing and even though we were chatting and not eating no one tried to rush us out.

If I was to pick out one thing that stood out it was the standard of customer service, the staff's attention to detail was better than some 5* hotels I've stayed in, Chris the manager was very friendly and especially helpful when the first room I was given smelled of smoke - my room was changed immediately.

Cant fault this place, the staff obviously work hard to make their customers welcome. It was appreciated.

Both events were simply wonderful, the food fantastic & the service flawless. I didn't stay overnight for either function as I live locally, but other guests said how comfy the rooms were & a great breakfast in the morning. The staff were always helpful & friendly & the hotel always clean & grounds looked after. Will definitely be back again, hopefully to stay overnight

Having recently had a very disappointing stay at another Mercure hotel, I was hoping it was a one off. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
The welcome was friendly and the receptionist was very nice.
My advice would be not to eat here, but definitely avoid the room service.
About 45 mins after ordering a single meal, I called to ask how long it might be. Someone put the phone down on me, and miraculously my meal appeared 5 mins later.
The meat was dry and the chunky chips were soggy - I suspect it had been sat waiting to be delivered for some time.
The shower was shockingly bad as well.
However, the room was lovely and cosy and the bathroom was clean.
On check out, the receptionist had no record of the room service so couldn't charge me but it wasn't worth paying for anyway!
In addition, I wasn't asked how my stay was.

Certainly worth paying the upgrade to executive if you want good work space and a lovely refurbished room. Friendly staff and the food service was great.
I would recommend this hotel, the leisure facilities are a bonus and I enjoyed a much needed good night sleep in a comfy clean bed.

I booked this hotel for the hubby and I on an £89 dinner and bottle of wine, bed and breakfast deal-a nice night away from the baby! Unfortunately not long before we were due to travel I was hospitalised with pneumonia and as our hotel date approached I was still quite unwell. I contacted Mercure to see if we could get a refund or even change the date of travel, they said no. We use Mercure 3 or 4 times a year on these deals so we were a little disappointed that they couldn't do anything for us, however not wanting to lose the money paid we decided we'd give it a go and hopefully try and enjoy a rest.

On arrival and check in we asked the receptionist Claire if we could do the privilege upgrade (we thought we might as well have a nicer room as we would be spending most of our time in it!) no upgrades were available, however Claire, on seeing that I was quite poorly, offered us a complimentary upgrade to a suite. We thought this was a very kind and lovely gesture so thank you for that Claire.

The room itself was spacious and clean. Probably the only two things that let it down slightly were the poorly flushing toilet and the lack of air-conditioning/temperature control (something the hubby and I think is a must in a modern hotel). We ended up spending the afternoon watching a film in the room (again sorted by Claire after there was a programming fault with the TV).

We attempted dinner in the restaurant on the evening. It was very quiet when we arrived and after receiving our bottle of wine, another member of staff, Isabel, could see I was quite unwell and went and got me a large jug of water to have instead. She was very attentive and so kind in looking after us (as was the other waiter but we didn't get his name I'm afraid). The food itself was really good quality, both the hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed what we had. Unfortunately the restaurant didn't have air-conditioning either and halfway through our main course I took a turn for the worse so we had to leave rather quickly. We were quite disappointed that we didn't get to finish our main meal, never mind get the chance to sample the puddings that looked fab!

Breakfast the next morning was the let down to this hotel. Very cold and limited choices (no eggs out of any kind, hash browns…) and staff were pretty non existent (other than someone came to ask us to move from the table near the window to further into the room-not what I wanted when I wasn't feeling the best…)

All in all I think we are pretty gutted about our stay here, we didn't really get to enjoy it in the way we would've liked. However I do think we will be back at some point, the hotel overall seemed really nice, we need to finish our dining room experience properly and try out the leisure facilities that we didn't even get to see never mind try out.
