Wanting just an overnight stay and expecting an OK stopover we were very very pleasantly surprised.
The receptionist was most welcoming and exremely helpful in arranging taxis for us; the room was quiet, clean and fresh with comfortable beds and stunning views over the West Penine Moors.
Everything worked fine; absolutely nothing not to like and a very good price by booking (and paying) well in advance. (We were attending a family get together so didn't need to be flexible about arrangements).

Reception area looks nice and inviting but my experience of this hotel was spoiled by my experience in the room. The room was too hot even with the window open (which subjected us to road traffic noise), the beds were hard and uncomfortable and the bathroom door squeaked terribly (so no sneaking quietly to the loo).

A little tired around the edges the focus of the room seemed to be yo fit as many beds in as possible. With a double and two singles filling one side of the room. I got the impression it was used a lot by tradesmen working in the area based on the other guests and the inclination to accommodate as many people as possible into a room. The corridor smelt very strongly of swimming pool (situated on the floor below) the hotel and room were clean enough just a little dated.

The room faced the road so was noisy in the early evening.

Room service was punctual, both breakfast and evening meal were reasonable in quality if a little over priced for what you get.

I would probably be inclined to try somewhere else even opting for a B and B if I was in the area again to see how other accommodation differs.

We stayed here two nights with Newmarket Holidays. Our room was very clean and comfortable although the room was a little too warm at times. We had a pre-booked meal which was OK but would have preferred something from the brassiere menu had we of stayed independently. The help yourself buffet breakfast was good. We did expect an iron and trouser press in our room but there wasn't one? (perhaps my daughter misunderstood the website?) but I did read on the welcome brochure you could obtain one from Reception. Overall, a good base to stay as part of a coach tour but without a car nothing around if you want to leave the hotel for the evening. Would happily stay here again.

I have stayed at this Hotel many times over the last 30 years and it is generally fine, but on my last visit the duvet cover on the bed in my Suite appeared not to have been washed properly and had two large brown stains on it. The Hotel was apologetic but this was a big disappointment.

My partner and I had an overnight stay at the Mercure Bolton mainly because of it's close proximity to a local eatery that we were attending at a fancy dress party. The Mercure was very good, it provided a good clean double room (although a little small). The bed was very comfortable and tea and coffee were available in the room. Unfortunately we were only given one bath towel between us both, a little disappointing as it was a double room!! However as it was only for a single night I would visit here again.

Caution!!! We had a drink in the bar before our evening out and the cost of four drinks was just short of £20. This was for 1 pint, 1 sherry (served in the wrong glass and it could not have been a shorter measure plus a glass of white wine and a G&T. Breakfast, which we declined because of the price, looked very good but less than a mile along the road we were able to get an absolutely marvellous breakfast for less than £24 , for all of us. A saving of over £20,

In conclusion I think the hotel was overpriced at £60 (without breakfast) and do not be taken in by the 'Georgian House' title. It may have been 'Georgian' a couple of centurys ago but now it is an 80's hotel with a fine sounding name.
