Spent 4 nights away, booked an executive suite. The room was amazing big bed, big TV , bath and shower, and a lovely view. This is the 6th time staying at the hotel. We have not done DBB before, the food was ok , but after the first 2 nights the menu was a bit small , they changed it over the weekend as well . We were on a 3 course menu, first 2 nights we could have anything of the menu, but the last 2 nights it was a set menu or an allowance of 22 pounds of the main menu, this was not as good value. Kyle and Dave in the restaurant made our stay they were great.

I was staying a single night on business and found the hotel to be of a good standard. My room was very large, clean and well appointed, albeit something of a walk from the reception area/restaurant/bar etc. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The pool was an added bonus, although it does get quite busy, so difficult to swim lengths..
The restaurant feels recently refurbished, and is bright and clean. The menu seemed somewhat limited, but the staff were very helpful in working around my garlic intolerance. Breakfast the following morning was very good, with a decent offering of both hot and cold options.
The bar is also very pleasant, and the bar staff very helpful and attentive.
Do make sure you check your car in on arrival to prevent a parking ticket. Despite the very obvious signage around the car park, there was an irate customer at reception when I arrived, very disgruntled that they hadn't been informed....
All in all, very happy with my stay, and I would stay here again.

Colleagues and I stayed here for 2 nights on business as it was conveniently located for my company's offices. I was given a room in the older part of the building and there's certainly evidence in the corridors of water damage.

The bedrooms are okay but with the main room light on are quite dark and there's no table light so working on a laptop so not easy, There was no hot water in the taps on my first morning but the shower was working fine although the pressure is pretty low.

The Bar area no longer serves food in the evening as it was quite nice to relax in the bar area with a meal and drink so you now need to go in the restaurant and book in advance if you want a table. Evening meal food quality was standard hotel fare and nothing spectacular. In fact other colleagues had very poor experience on their first night (items not available and very tough steak) and ate elsewhere in the area for the duration.

Worth noting that due to "covid" the rooms are not serviced unless you specifically request so you end up with the same towels, bins are not emptied and tea/coffee supplies are not replenished.

I can't fault the staff for their friendliness but there's to be more attention to the fabric of the hotel and overall guest experience needs to improve to justify 4 stars which is a shame as it's not as good as it was.

Cleanliness was very good. Areas were cold at times but then again we had just experienced a storm and snow! Out rooms were lovely and warm.

Food was fabulous and served with excellent etiquette ! I would give food 5 star and hotel 4 stars as it was chilly to sit and relax in lounges.

Unfortunately the spa experience had no sauna and steam room working :( so spa experience I would give 3 star. Massages were lovely though šŸ‘

All in all staff very accommodating. A nice visit and would come again (when spa is fully functional)

Shout out to our waiter Shailesh and all staff and management for service āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø

This hotel has the best customer service I have ever experienced, from reception to the spa and the restaurant. The lady who runs the spa is absolutely lovely and really helpful. The reception staff are great at meeting and greeting. The restaurant staff are so friendly and attentive in particular Christopher and Kayla but all were great I just couldn't remember everyone's name. I work in the hospitality industry myself, great staff are hard to come by but fantastic staff are incredibly rare. Whoever oversees the customer service has done an impeccable job here. Hats off to the mercure training academy they really set the standards. Thanks for a lovely stay 😊will defo be back šŸ™ŒšŸ»

Staying at Mercure with Son for a night before football.

Nice enough hotel with some rooms outside main hotel and almost everything you need in room (just a fridge missing)

Pool is fine but gym dissapointly had a 16 year old age limit.

We ate at hotel and received excellent service from Christopher and he was managing the room well. Food was pretty good.

Executive room was fresh and clean if a bit spartan but assume this is covid related.
Breakfast good except the fried eggs which were just weird. Ribbery doesn’t come close. They actually had a hard sole like a shoe. I wasn’t even going to try to digest it.

What let the stay down was the evening (Christmas party) function.

The bar area is too small for the number of people who were waiting to enter the function room and is a walk way for people going to their rooms in the external wing.

Evening function food was very poor. Especially when you consider it was Ā£38 per head, no drinks, a naff ā€œdiscoā€ and the cheapest party cracker ever. Morrisons do a bigger, better quality festive main course for Ā£5.95.
The only saving grace was that the portions were tiny. And mean TINY.
My ham hock terrine starter looked like a can of Caesar cat food plonked on top of some piccalilli straight out of a jar. Fortunately it didn’t taste like Caesar, as it was tasteless.
Talking about tasteless… the Breaded Goats cheese was the most uncheesy cheese I have ever eaten and I doubt it had ever seen a goat. I think you got it from Amazon, as packaging around the crackers.
Main course was terrible. The "veg" was tiny ready diced cubes of carrot and turnip (it said parsnip) straight out of a stew pack packet, the sprouts tasted like they had been cooked in horseradish and I dont recall any roast potatoes or a chipolata sausage. The roast beef was similarly sparse compared to the lavish description. Please don’t insult people by using terms like ā€œred wine jusā€ and ā€œpan roast jusā€ when what you are serving is watery gravy. And I use the word gravy loosely.
That said, what we did get was hot. Small, poor, but hot. The Christmas pud was as though it had been nuked. Red hot and bone dry - straight out of too long in the microwave.
They certainly offset the early doors ā€œhappy hourā€ drinks pricing with regular hotel drinks pricing for the rest of the evening.

Another problem was the music, which was at full volume as we entered the function room and continued at full volume throughout the meal.
Conversation during the meal was very difficult. We asked several times if it could be turned down slightly until after service but it just continued. Even though no one was dancing and everyone was eating. Read the room is my suggestion.

I’m so pleased I chose to come to the party night here, all I can say is WOW. The atmosphere was so festive and warm and all the staff so accommodating. The bar greeting area prior to sitting down was lovely I particularly liked the fact that the function suite was separate from the main hotel and that you can also be accessed separately too if needed, I loved the space where the lobby area was too, albeit there could have been a few more chairs in here so guest could escape the louder dancing area if they wanted. There was also a lack of seating in the bar area too, maybe it’s a covid thing, but it would have been more relaxed with a few seats. The food was AMAZING! I loved that it was piping hot when it came out and totally fresh! Food was so hot it was perfect! The soup my starter was lovely, the main turkey, was so moist, I love turkey like that! And my chocolate dessert was ultimate perfection!! Then dancing and partying!

As it was during media coverage of covid getting worse I was a little cautious about attending. I spoke to Lisa the Director of Sales who reassured me that the hotel is doing everything to go above and beyond for their guests. The hospitality industry is regulated so much it is actually the safest industry. She mentioned Including all staff wearing masks and gloves, food prepared to strict guidelines, sterile areas, rooms to exceptionally high cleaning standards and tight regulations with distance for tables. We were advised to wear masks if required too. I felt really safe when visiting.

My room was fantastic too! Set close to the function room, all guests attending the function and staying were in the same wing part of the hotel, which is great! Imagine having a wedding here and all your guests can be so close is fantastic!

My room was equipped with a stunning bathroom perfect comfortable 6 foot bed, a self controller heater, fridge, robes, hairdryer, kettle and a nespresso coffee machine! Truly spoiled! I slept like a baby!

In conclusion….thanks for an amazing night! I’m coming back to use the spa facilities next time!
