This is what we call a great Chippy. Down to earth Honest Fish and Chip menu that is Excellent. The staff greet you as you come in, there service is first class and although slightly dearer than a normal Chippy it is well worth the little extra. We dine here frequently.

This is a fish and chip restaurant and so not the place to come if you want a roulade or something fancy but that shouldn't put you off, just be aware that as a restaurant the clue is in the name. The heart of the menu is fish, chips and peas with a slice of bread and a pot of tea or cup of coffee. This is with a choice of cod, haddock, plaice, hake or salmon, with relatively little difference in the price and it's possible to ask for white or brown bread. There are alternaitves, including a range of sandwiches, jacket potatoes with varied fillings, cornish pasties, burgers and so on. This is pretty much the menu of a fairly tarditional fish and chip shop and around the corner there is a take away section that is just that. If you decide to opt for the basic meal of fish and chips there is also the pensioners deal available for a couple of pounds less and the 'Whopper's range that includes fish up to 16oz for nearly £20 at the time of writing. There is a wide range of extra dishes available from steak and kidney pie and cod's roe to just gravy or curry.
Drinks include a variety of hot and cold drinks with a limited range of wines, beers and spirits.
The restaurant itself is bright and airy, with plenty of room around most of the tables. This is not one of those places where you feel a little too close to the neighbouring table and the decor is tasteful, clean and well maintained with comfortable seating. We opted for one of the standard meals with cod and a pot of tea. The service was incredibly fast and the tea arrived shortly after I did having placed my order at the counter! Following on no more than 2-3 minutes behind was our food and this is possibly the fastest service we've experienced (they have a 7-10 minute service promise). Portion size was reasonable for the money and for two people at the time of writing the two meals came to just under £17. If you order tea for two people be aware that it will come in a larger pot, rather than providing two pots and it will come with additional hot water,
The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly and there is an effort here to make your visit an enjoyable one. This is certainly a place to come for a good basic meal whatever your age though your options will be fairly limited if you are vegetarian and severely so if you are vegan. You may only feel happy with a jacket potato and beans. We didn't ask whether the cheese used was vegetarian or what the chips are prepared in.
We wouldn't hesitate to go back and it's especially nice to drop in after a day spent shopping in Bolton town centre as well as coming here for a nice simple meal out in large part because of the quality of service and the interior layout. Group bookings are available with additional meal pricing options.

Visited Olympus yesterday, it's not the same as was, yes the staff as always friendly, helpful, and yes it was clean, but food served on small plates, whatever you do don't order the chicken tikka sandwich because it's not chicken tikka. It's gone a bit pricey. The pensioners size is the same as a normal size.

The food is decent though I've had better fish and chips nearer the coast. The decor is very smart and clean and the service friendly and prompt. Only real quibble is cost versus portion size. Only open in the day, closes about 6.

I regularly meet a group of theatre going friends at the Olympus for an early dinner. The restaurant is spacious and well appointed. We meet at 6pm and are always in good time for a 7.30pm curtain up around the corner at the Octagon.

The staff are friendly and efficient and the food is so much more than fish and chips if that is what you prefer. Personally I think that the haddock and chips and a glass of house white for £8 is just fab!

I dine in this genuinely authentic fish restaurant virtually every time I visit the Octagon Theatre. Maybe there are other places worth trying but why would I look elsewhere, it is great and very convenient for the theatre! The (family) owners have spent a small fortune in upgrading the entire establishment and have even included a lovely outdoor terrace leading off from the conservatory area of the restaurant. This is, I am sure, especially welcome to the remaining smoking population who don't have to street walk with their ciggies! Just so long as the anti-ash brigade don't start tut tutting when summer comes ..! Special mention to the toilet facilities which are some of the most hygenic I have come across. Virtually hands-free everything!
A warm welcome is given to everyone - I know, I watched the staff treat everyone who walked through the door in the same fashion. The food is very very good and exactly as described - fresh, tasty, straightforward and good value. The service is speedy and professional. You can have wine if you wish but frankly a pot of tea is perfect with traditional fish and chips. They have also retained their take away business but kept the entrance separate which is much better for those who want a restaurant atmosphere. I can say nothing more than to urge anyone who has not yet tried Olympus to head on down there asap!
