We were attending a wedding in the area and needed somewhere to stay for the evening. We upgraded to a superior room and asked for it to be in a quiet part of the hotel when we made the booking. As there was a wedding reception in progress when we cheked in, we were glad we had specified that we wanted somewhere quiet. Judging by the thumping base, tab ends, broken glass, and girl sprawled on the ground outside the back car park entrance, the guests were making the most of letting their hair down! Our room was a good size, clean and well away from the wedding noise, so we were pleased that we had spent the extra to upgrade etc. The bed was comfy and there was a coffee machine, robes and slippers too. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice. Overall we were satisfied with our stay but I think it may have been a different story if we had booked a standard room. I think that as a matter of courtesy all hotels should make it clear to other guests that a wedding reception is being held during their stay.

I went to a friends wedding and was recommended this hotel by another mecure branch due to fully booked rooms.
We were obviously recommended this hotel because it was a mecure and they didn't want us to go elsewhere. We paid £90 for a standard double room and I can tell you the premier inn is a lot better than this hotel which is highly rated!!
The bed was comfy but we had two singles pushed together, the tv did not work, and I mean they made you pay to watch the channels! I thought it was ridiculous, it should have been included in the price. The premier inn offers the basics and also let's you watch the tv channels included with your overall price of £29. You could hear others making noise in the rooms near. I did enjoy the breakfast the next morning. The food was lovely would go again just for the food.
To summarize it was a good hotel, clean with friendly staff.. But it wasn't worth what facilitates we're offered and too expensive and highly rated in my eyes. I wouldn't go back to stay there.

I stayed here for 2 nights in early July whilst attending a course taking place at the hotel. Before leaving I checked the website, and read this quote:

Horwich Parkway station - 1.5 miles (2.5 km)
Take a taxi from the taxi rank outside the station.

I therefore assumed that taxis would be readily available. A 5 hour train journey later, I found myself stranded at Horwich Parkway with no taxis in sight. I waited several minutes but none showed up, and the fact that locals were parking in the taxi rank to collect friends and family off the train spoke volumes to just how often an idle taxi would be found waiting at this train station. Thank goodness for the iPhone – a quick Google gave me the numbers of several local taxi firms... all of whom told me there were no taxis available for at least half an hour. Tired, hungry and with heavy bags, I didn’t fancy the 1.5 mile walk – so I waited. Long story short, do not believe the hotel website when it claims you can simply take a taxi from the taxi rank. You will need to prebook or face a long wait (or walk).

The staff at the hotel were all very pleasant and friendly. My room was clean and comfortable, though felt a little dated in places. There were no openable windows, and the TV reception was poor. On my second night, my keycard into my room stopped working and I had to return to reception to get it reprogrammed – not a major concern, but a minor inconvenience with my arms full of folders from a day’s training. The walls between rooms are quite thin - I was able to hear the goings on in the rooms around me at night.

I ate in the hotel bar both nights (there is also a restaurant offering, I believe, the same menu). The large TV was showing Wimbledon which, for me, was a huge plus. The food as well was wonderful, possibly the best steak I have ever eaten!

The hotel were also very helpful when it came to the training, and had everything set up in plenty of time on both days. When we had a technical problem during the second day, a member of staff was quickly found and helped to fix the problem. The catering couldn’t be faulted, nor could the provisions laid out for delegates.

I did not have a chance to use the gym or pool, but I went to have a look and it all looked very nice – wish I’d had a chance to take a dip!

On the final day, I asked staff at reception to book me a taxi back to the station. I almost missed this taxi as, despite asking for the taxi at 4:10, they booked for 4 and I just caught the driver as he was about to give up on me and drive off!

We held our wedding here after viewing various other venues. The De Vere Whites never even bothered to return our call when initially making the enquiry! After meeting the Sales Manager, Sue, and viewing the venue and rooms we felt this was the ideal place for us and our guests.

From making the initial booking in April 2012 right up to the day after our wedding nothing was too much trouble. Every aspect of our event had been planned by us and carefully and meticulously adhered to.

Every meeting we had about the day was with Sue so we were assured of continuity, therefore the details were not being passed from one person to another. When we were introduced to the Operations Manager, Peter, and the Event Manager, Carl, they were already in full understanding of how we wanted our wedding to be run as they had met with Sue and cleared up any questions they had with us to ensure a smooth running of our event.

The actual wedding day went superbly without any stress. Ourselves and all of our guests thoroughly enjoyed the day. All of the staff were very attentive and our guests were made to feel pampered, us even more so. The day from start to finish was wonderfully orchestrated by Carl and his team and also the chambermaids made an excellent job of getting all of the rooms ready as early as possible for our guests to check in. The rooms were very adequate, although some were in need of some cosmetic attention. The beds were comfortable and the rooms very clean.

The food was splendid and plentiful and the serving staff very attentive and welcoming. All the staff treated us as friends rather than customers. We thoroughly recommend this hotel for your wedding or event and cannot recommend it highly enough. We will certainly be returning to this hotel to book any future events we may have.

This review is from somebody who spent 23 years in the hotel industry and is very particular (I have worked for myself for the last ten years so I am not biased).

Stayed during the ironman competition. Excellent service from the staff. Rooms a little dated and a little worn and could do with a refurb but overall excellent value for money and I'd stay again when i'm in the area.

Firstly, India holt was charged with making me welcome. She was fantastic! She optimises customer relations.
Louise in management was wonderfully kind and would go above and beyond to help any guest!
Emma was a delight! She was most pleasant and made our dining experience most enjoyable.
But the main reason I would come back is for the staff, especially India who has unbelievable people skills and made a dull evening bearable

I am becoming a regular feature here. Hotel a throwback to the Bananarama/Nik Kershaw era...for those who remember! 1980's build and still the same hall carpets. Nonetheless, staff are very good, though you'll have to make your voice heard for them to come and offer you tea at breakfast. That said, the buffet is good and they will fetch breakfast for you if you request. Clean and tidy rooms, but few TV channels...why can't they at least have council TV - or free view as its known here? All in all a decent bolt hole, nice but spartan bar, but the staff make this hotel better. I hope Mercure do invest in it as it won't take much to make it better.

Myself and my husband got married at the Georgian house at the beginning of August and i could not recommend it enough, everything was just wonderful! Right from the very first appointment Marie the wedding co-ordinator was brilliant! On the day the satff could not do enough for us and Louise who ran the wedding was amazing she just did not stop all day. Everyone who stopped at the hotel said they had a comfortable stay and enjoyed the breakfast.

I would reccomend the Mecure Bolton Georgian house hotel to anyone wether it be for a wedding or a leisure break.

We used the Georgian house hotel as our base, for our weekend break with friends, the staff at our hotel where great, Louise and Chris where very helpful in surging places to visit, as we did not know the area. We decided on Blackpool, & Louise when to the trouble of getting us train times for use and taxi numbers for our return. Nothing was too much. Thank you for an enjoyable stay .

Chose this hotel for a three-night midweek break because it is both dog friendly and doesn't charge a ridiculous amount to accommodate them. The hotel actually plays host to guide dog training.

Public areas were modern, nicely furnished and we were able to take the pooch into the bar when no-one was eating (outside terrace all the time). We had a spacious family room (one king size bed, two singles side-by-side) on the ground floor, handily next to the car park. The leisure suite - pool and fitness rooms - was well equipped and spotless. My cousin and daughter swam twice a day.

We booked room only but paid in advance for 2-course dinners on the first evening and were able to choose from a daily set menu or have an allowance against the main menu. There was a separate, varied children's menu from which our nine-year-old had her favourite steak, chips and peas. This and my cousin's burger and fries were well liked but the lamb in my casserole was tough and the rosemary simply a fresh sprig on top rather than cooked in the sauce. It was served with two small, soft skinned baked potatoes but no contrasting veg to relieve the brown colour and texture.

Restaurant service was poor beyond belief - there was only one other table taken in the dining room and about a dozen people eating in the bar. Main courses took a while to come but when we'd waited over 30 minutes for two desserts - a cheese plate to share and an ice cream for the youngster - we decided not to bother. The server explained the delays on 'a lot of room service'. As we passed reception we were asked if we had enjoyed the meal and when we explained the missing desserts, ice cream was whisked to our room without problem.

Other than this, service was friendly and efficient and we very much enjoyed using the Mercure as a base.
