We visited Hestercombe Gardens for a friends wedding and we weren't disappointed. The views were a perfect backdrop for the photographs, the Orangerie was a beautiful venue for the service and the catering and service was second to none.

I would definitely recommend this venue for day trips (the views and the gardens really are spectacular) or for a wedding venue.

The gardens here are well worth a visit at this time of year when the roses and foxgloves are blooming. The garden here is so well planted, and a vista from every angle. The building is not attractive, and some of the restoration of other buildings leaves a lot to be desired (municipal bricks), but the garden more than makes up for this, as does the walk up the valley with it's suprises (buildings and follies). Food in the cafe was good, and mostly made fresh to order.

A lot of work has been carried out to the gardens at Hestercombe to make it a place where families can come and enjoy a very enjoyable half day out. The grounds contain a woodland walk, large lake, waterfall and interesting follies but the crowning glory has to be the formal garden, with its stunning roses and perennials of all varieties - a real treat for the eyes and the nose! There is a good and reasonably priced cafe/restaurant and a decent shop selling the usual gifts plus a good selection of garden plants.

I visited these gardens at the beginning of June 2012. The weather was very kind that day so I saw the gardens at their best. Over recent years a great deal of money and effort has been spent on restoring these gardens to their former glory but have not been overly manicured. It has been beautifully done and for me the outstanding feature was the amount of stonework used in the garden in such a creative way so as to blend in completely with the surroundings and the landscaping of the garden. The house is not open to the public but there is more than enough to see in the garden to make a lovely day out. There is also at least one cafe for lunch/tea. A thoroughly enjoyable day and one of the nicest gardens I have seen.

I had the privilege to stay at the Holiday Inn Preston on a 3 night stay - whilst I was working and looking after a young gentleman by the name of Matthew, he is Severely Autistic with challenging behavioural problems. I must say the staff working here are truly exceptional. The management ensured nothing was too much trouble, they had reserved a disabled bay prior to our arrival, the room allocated was spacious, scrupulously clean and the beds were really comfortable. The breakfast selection was vast, fresh, cooked well, the quality of the hot 'n' cold food on offer was remarkable. Most important feature of this hotel is it's core staff, they are all truly professional, attentive, courteous and work extremely well together as a team. The front of house staff ensured nothing was too much trouble so special thanks to "Georgia Crosskell" and "Dina Modsia" you are both extremely true professionals, very attentive and dedicated individuals. Special thanks to "Lee Stevenson" who worked in the restaurant who had the patience of a saint so again much appreciated. Also the pleasant chap who went over and above anyone else and above his own work remit - "Matthew Ashcroft" who I believed worked in the Maintenance Dept, can I just say a special thank you for your help and cooperation during our stay it didn't go unnoticed, if anyone deserves recognition for Employee of the Month I hope you Matthew Ashcroft are considered along with the other named employees. Finally I would just like to say a special thank you to the General Manager of this establishment "Michelle Lonsdale" who ensured our planned visit went like clockwork. A true manager who runs a very well organised hotel which I understand is owned by Centre Island but is licenced to the IHG Group, this company should be very proud you have an exceptional manager in post. Thank you all once again.

My main issue with this hotel was the car park. It's tiny and usually full. There is a large multi-storey car park (bus station) opposite the hotel but this was closed for construction during my visit. I found another multi-storey about 10 mins walk away, which was ok but not great if you're arriving late at night and having to walk from there with bags. And of course you have to pay to use it.

The hotel room was good. Very clean, wooden shutters on windows to keep out the noise from the main road, comfortable bed, loads of hot water etc etc. No problems there at all, although on the small side for £99 per night. It's more like a £75 room.

I didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food, but the bar/restaurant looked busy everytime I walked past.

Hotel reception staff were friendly & welcoming.

Nicely placed hotel within easy walking distance of the town centre , car park is a bit small but we always found a space. Room was very clean only criticism was the shower setting was temperamental couldn't quite get the right water temperature either too hot or cold, the rest of the family staying with us did not have this problem in their rooms. Staff are friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our stay.

Stayed overnight on way to coast. Reception was excellent and well noted my Gold Card.
Room was on 6th floor with good views of the city. Very comfortable although furnishings a bit dated. Bathroom absolutely fine with good shower and bath.Beds and pillows were super comfortable.
Had dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was "steak week" with very good medium prices. The steaks were perfectly cooked to our requirement and the staff were really nice.
Same can be said for the breakfast with big choice of hot and cold foods.
Overall we were very pleased with our stay. Very good value for the money.

The staff were all very nice from reception to the Restaurant. I had room service my 1st night and it was very nice and a very large portion. The breakfast had plenty of choice and was really nice. The bed was really comfy. Room a little bit dated but fine for the 3 nights I stayed. My only negative is I was overlooking the bus station and the noise of the constant announcements from the station and the traffic I found it very very hard to sleep. Also through the night there was a noise like a generator not sure if there was next to my room as my room 312 was the last on the landing next to a cupboard and stairs. As I've been on a course when I'm back in August I'm not sure I will stay again as I need my sleep.

We stayed at this hotel during a visit to Preston for a special occasion. The room was great and staff were excellent. We even got a free bottle of fizz delivered to the room which was greatly appreciated. We wouldn’t hesitate in staying here again as location was great for our needs as only a short walk to the city centre.
