Stayed here recently for 4 nights for business. The car park is tiny and was full throughout my stay so I had to park in the multi story opposite, which wasn't an issue. The snooker was on at the guild hall so it was nice having breakfast with all the players around! Food was good, staff were helpful! One of the lifts wasn't working, but gave me an excuse to use the stairs for a change! Overall it's ideally located so I would stay again.

This is a difficult review to write because it's not for the lack of trying that makes the hotel experience feel like a 1980s time machine.

Staff: the staff are great and can't do enough to help. The reception staff were great and ordering room service was a pleasant experience. The food service staff even left a note with dinner saying 'hope you have a great stay" etc. Now the cynic in me knows that this is a ploy to get higher tips (read any psychology text book for more) but even though I knew why, it was still a nice touch and deserves a mention.

Room: I was on the sixth floor which is supposedly reserved for IHG card holders and the corridors were all painted in a "business grey". The room itself however was in all honesty way below par for 2017 - it was very small, there was no plug by the bed (which in this day and age is crazy - EVERYONE has their phone in bed and use it for alarms etc), the TV was still analogue and had hardly any channels - for you kids out there analogue TV was pre digital and there was only a few channels that had crappy signal. The room was clean and tidy, but was still in the old 'Corby Trouser Press' era. So incredibly dated. The room was so small there wasn't any space to really put the suitcase even.

Location: centre of town so good location and was close to where I was working

Food: absolutely fine and as you'd expect from a standard hotel like this

Overall: honestly the hotel needs refurbishing because it's simply not up to the expected standards these days. With AirBnB the same nightly cost would allow you to stay somewhere twice as good - and that's the issue. The staff honestly try their best but IHG are doing them a disservice by not allowing them to give their guests the best experience by virtue of the hotel itself. Travelodge and Premier Inn are far more modern, bright and with larger rooms and because of that this hotel fails.

Had a meeting in the lounge bar. Irene bar staff was excellent, friendly, professional, obliging and cared about her customers. Give that woman a pay rise 😚. I will return as great venue for a work meeting. Irene also offered a quite room I could use if required. She is a great representative of Mercure Hotels.

We went there as was given a gift for afternoon tea.
We were welcome by Irene and served throughout the afternoon by her. She made the experience pleasant and memorable. Irene ensured we got a seat near the radiator as it was a cold day. She also went out the way to get us vegetarian sandwiches. The food and tea was good. Overall, it was made a great experience thanks to Irene.

Had afternoon tea today with my dad at the hotel. Served by Irene. Absolutely lovely food, great service from Irene who even boxed some of our left over food to take home.

She is a credit to the Hotel.
Sat us next to the TV and radiator so we could be warm and have a nosey around whilst we ate!

Irene made sure our drinks were filled up throughout.

We have just had afternoon tea at the Georgian House and it was delicious. Irene the waitress, so helpful and pleasant, she couldn’t do enough for us. The sandwiches were freshly made and a good choice of flavours. The cakes were so tasty, we will be going back to try the lunchtime menu. We would certainly recommend this venue and will be going back again.

Very nice quiet hotel, spotless clean and very friendly staff. The hotel is a little dated but still worth a visit. The food was tasty and a good size. Breakfast had plenty of choice however the food on the hot plate was a little over. I would definitely stay here again.

Booked as only hotel available in the area, but very surprised! My room was spotless, huge and very comfortable, and the food was delicious. I ate lunch in the bar both days and was served by Irene, who couldn't do enough for me. It was clear by her rapport with regulars that she's well-loved, she's a credit to the hotel!
