I booked this hotel last minute as a special one night away for my husbands 50th birthday, we loved it so much we are looking at when we can go back. It is worth every one of it's 5 stars just for the accomodation and service, we didn't even try the spa.
We stayed in a seaview room which had a balcony, the decor was lovely, the bed was the most comfortable I have slept on and I am fussy, you get asked before you arrive if you have any special requirement for pillows. All of the staff are wonderful and friendly, it is a very relaxed atmosphere, nothing is too much trouble. The Brasserie service and food is excellent, I would love to try the Governor's restaurant. The location is in town so great for wandering around. Don't attempt to park a car yourself, the carpark is around the back down a narrow alley and the staff are used to manouvering them for you, just stop outside and let them know.
My only comment is that if you were 6ft plus you would not fit in the shower in our bathroom as either the bath was high or the showerhead low, but I am sure that there are other rooms with a different layout, just mention it when you book.
Thank you OGH, I wanted this to be a special stay for a special day and it turned out better than I could have wished.

Since the OGH changed their fine dining restaurant into a "Curry Room" the diner now only has Hobsons choice of eating in the Brassiere, unless you want curry. The room itself is very well laid out and the service is excellent. Unfortunately the food is very mediocre. You know the sort of thing. Not poor enough to ellicit a complaint but totally unmemorable. After an absence of nealy 12 months for just that reason, my Wife and I decided to give it anoher try and went for Dinner Saturday evening. The restaurant was less than 10% full, which did not bode well for the evening and unfortunately the food had not changed. A very limited menu (For a 5* Hotel) and still not poor enough to complain but not very good either. Shame, it should be one of the best in Guernsey.

We had a very relaxing stay at OGH Guernsey. The staff were very attentive, polite and helpful without being overbearing or intrusive. The food was excellent and service faultless. It was particularly impressive that we were welcomed by name wherever we went in the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were very willing to help. Truly special hotel on a pearl of an island. We will definitely return.

The friendliness and commitment to providing good service from all the staff we came into contact with couldn't be faulted. The breakfasts and meals in The Brasserie restaurants were also first class. On this occasion we did not eat in the The Curry Room but it did look splendid and we would certainly eat there on another visit. The standard of housekeeping was also perfect and the room and bathroom was kept spotless. As this hotel is located in an old building the rooms tend to be very individual and it is worth ascertaining what you are actually booking. Our room was a King sea view (107) but was accessed along corridors and stairways away from lift access so may not be suitable for all. The decor also was a little underwhelming and could do with refurbishment for a 5* hotel. The thick net type curtains at the windows made the sea view impossible to see without somehow tying them back and I really think this is something the hotel should look at. But all in all a lovely stay and we would return.

We had a lovely stay at the OGH hotel, well pampered and rested, Our room was very nice and the bed was probably the most comfortable we have slept in, the decor throughout the hotel is very tasteful and a cosy feeling.
Breakfast superb, as expected with excellent choice.
The Brasserie served up excellent Steak and Fish, The Curry restaurant was good too.

The Spa facility was good, although the Chill out room a bit noisy if you wanted a bit of Zen !!
Staff excellent throughout nothing too much trouble, and very polite & attentive.
It was nice also to have your car parked for you, that took the worry away about parking, All in all a lovely hotel and we will definately return one day soon.

We stayed for 5 nights in a studio suite which was beautifully furnished with a 2m wide bed. It was quiet even with the windows open at times. The food in the Brasserie and the Governors Room was excellent as were all the staff. There is nowhere else like it in St Peter Port and with the whole town just down the lane outside the door, we will definitely be staying at OGH again next time.

An old style, elegant hotel, tastefully modernised and extremely comfortable. The bedroom was a good size and bed + pillows awesome. Bathrooms have both shower and bath + L'Occitan toiletries and accurate, easily adjusted climate control; coffee and tea making. There was no fridge but one was brought up immediately on request. Dinner was excellent both evenings with beautifully prepared and presented meals. Cooked breakfast is very good but the cold table quite limited with only one bread, no smoked salmon or any fish and few meats, no salads or cakes-just 1 pastry and I would expect more from this hotel. The staff are simply superb and nothing is too much trouble and happens straight away. The outdoor pool is too small to swim in but the gym is very good. Even after checking out we were offered showers and sandwiches to take away (which were excellent). I would strongly recommend this as it is easily the best hotel on the island.

I'd just like to thank all of the staff for making our short stay absolutely flawless. The reception & concierge team were very friendly and efficient, the food was excellent and the room quiet, comfortable and immaculate, The standard of service throughout the hotel was exceptional. (Special thanks to Lucy who served us in the restaurant on numerous occasions and couldn't have been more helpful or professional.) This is a fantastic hotel in which to stay and I am very much looking forward to my next visit.

The Old Government House will be one of the most wonderful hotels anyone could stay in. The quality of the house extends from the foyer, to the eateries, and to the rooms which are luxurious to say the least. In fact, were one to rate this hotel only on the quality of the accommodation alone, it would have to rate 10/10.

However, what let the hotel down was the breakfast room. In the morning, breakfast staff including the manager need to be seen and NOT heard, however, the manager exercised his authority too loudly in organising his staff who at times seemed to outnumber the guests. OGH only offers a continental buffet breakfast; a cooked breakfast is al a carte. This is where perfection goes belly up and where improvement is requirement. A simple request for "tea for two" shouldn't have to be repeated to be fulfilled. A guest opposite sought toast twice before the slices appeared. This occurred on each of the days we were there. On the basis of haphazard service, the score must be reflected accordingly, so 8/10. Why so harsh? Overnight accommodation is number one priority, breakfast is number two. Root out the causes of poor breakfast service and this hotel will be perfect.
