I'd just like to thank all of the staff for making our short stay absolutely flawless. The reception & concierge team were very friendly and efficient, the food was excellent and the room quiet, comfortable and immaculate, The standard of service throughout the hotel was exceptional. (Special thanks to Lucy who served us in the restaurant on numerous occasions and couldn't have been more helpful or professional.) This is a fantastic hotel in which to stay and I am very much looking forward to my next visit.

The Old Government House will be one of the most wonderful hotels anyone could stay in. The quality of the house extends from the foyer, to the eateries, and to the rooms which are luxurious to say the least. In fact, were one to rate this hotel only on the quality of the accommodation alone, it would have to rate 10/10.

However, what let the hotel down was the breakfast room. In the morning, breakfast staff including the manager need to be seen and NOT heard, however, the manager exercised his authority too loudly in organising his staff who at times seemed to outnumber the guests. OGH only offers a continental buffet breakfast; a cooked breakfast is al a carte. This is where perfection goes belly up and where improvement is requirement. A simple request for "tea for two" shouldn't have to be repeated to be fulfilled. A guest opposite sought toast twice before the slices appeared. This occurred on each of the days we were there. On the basis of haphazard service, the score must be reflected accordingly, so 8/10. Why so harsh? Overnight accommodation is number one priority, breakfast is number two. Root out the causes of poor breakfast service and this hotel will be perfect.

As mentioned in the title, this was a lovely hotel, with fantastic staff that made you feel most welcome.

For the price I paid I was expecting high standards and was disappointed with the room. It was very dark and damp feeling. No view just overlooked a wall. For £230 I was expecting to at least see the sky. The room was very noisy as well no fault of the hotel just noisy guests next to me. The Internet was very hit and miss in the room and didn't work at all with my work laptop so Internet security wasn't the best. Also turndown service was far too late, after 9pm. Luckily only there one night.

On the plus side my dinner in the restaurant was to die for, with background piano player singing as well. I was a woman on my own but was never made to feel out of place.

Breakfast and lunch overlooking harbour was another treat.

If your coming to this hotel for all the mod cons you will be disappointed, lifts don't reach all floors and its up the top of a big hill.
But putting all the aside I would say it had a sort of old school charm that you don't get to see now days.

Refurb some rooms and better internet you would have got the full 5 stars

The service from excellent helpful friendly staff made this hotel one which we would happily return to. The only thing which disappointed us was the room size which was very small and the lack of hanging space. Two guests staying for a week need more than 18 inches of rail! That said was a very big comfortable bed with top quality bed linen and furnishings. Breakfast was excellent and special praise to Mr Ken Ramoo who welcomed us with a smile and by name every morning.

I decided to take a short trip to Guernsey having never visited the Island and having looked at the Old Government Hotel before as a possible place to stay decided that this was the hotel for my taste and what a wonderful experience it was. I had a Queens Room which was excellent, spotlessly clean with a very spacious, comfortable bed. The staff could not do enough to make my stay just right. The breakfast was very appetising and freshly served and both the Brasserie and Curry Room offered food of a very tasty quality, beautifully cooked to the highest standard. Would definitely return.

The sense of being enfolded in an elegance redolent of earlier times is irresistible, and this is a hotel which gradually impresses more and more. The cosmopolitan staff are helpful and willing, and we were impressed with the warmth of our reception. There were occasional unfortunate glitches for members of our group, and the fire alarm saga will remain long in our annals (the management's response to the inconvenience was exemplary). Food and service were excellent, as was our room - the generous space and delightful marine views came at a considerable price, however. We did not have time to sample the pool and spa - all of which looked very good, with most attractive grounds.

There is a real sense of style and quality - just a tad more consistency would make this a real star.

We love Guernsey and 'The OGH' as it is known locally. After some consideration of other hotels we decided to return, for our 5th visit, to The OGH. Not much has changed since our last stay except a really convivial enlarged bar. It was needed since it is a popular watering hole. This new facility continues albeit in a more contempory style the 'Gentlemens' Club' ambiance.

Our room, albeit one of their smaller ones was spotless, comfortable and the en-suite larger than in many hotels.

The public spaces, landings, terrace, garden, lounge, bar and restaurant are all lovely spaces in which to linger, relax and enjoy. Not a place to rush.

All the staff are friendly and helpful. However we did feel on this visit the standard of service in the restaurant was not quite as good as it was. A shame as that was a star quality which we hope will be restored.

We stayed at the OGH for a week at the end of June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a lovely sea-view room with balcony, and although our bathroom was a bit on the small side it was immaculate and we loved the l'occitaine toiletries, big soft towels, bathrobes and slippers. The staff at this hotel are second to none - we were greeted by name each morning, each and every one was polite and courteous and we felt very well looked after .

The Brasserie, where we had breakfast each morning, was lovely, and we actually dined there on four occasions during our stay - we usually prefer to try out the local restaurants when we go on holiday - but the food was so good we were happy to 'eat in' as it were. Our only observation (not a complaint!) was that sometimes we found the dining room a little quiet and thought maybe some tasteful background music would have helped.

We would recommend the OGH to anyone visiting Guernsey - it should have a 5th star!

Wow what a hotel you are treated like the queen all the time staff are extremely friendly and polite. the breakfast is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. The room we had was luxurious and the service to the room was amazing. The gym and spa are tucked away down stairs but for me it was lovely to have the feeling that you were the only one that knew it was there what a treat. Luxury!!

Rooms – excellent – we had a wonderful spacious room the first night but a rubbish view, then a small room the rest of the stay, with an absolutely superb view of the harbour and the other islands, as the front rooms with the views are not all suites. This equalled it out and the price seemed fair enough with the 4 nights for 3 deal.

A rather strange excuse why our room wasn’t ready – “Oh sorry, we thought it was one person so we have to prepare it for two.” Prepare such a spacious room for two?

I was impressed that they warned us about the noisy music from a wedding reception below our room on the Saturday evening, and said it would end at 2300, which it did, on the dot.

Room IT system – the slowest and most user-unfriendly TV-centered internet and music system we’ve ever seen – I hope the hotel didn’t pay too much for whoever conned them into buying it.

Spa and treatments – brilliant. Worth staying here just for that.

Brasserie restaurant – excellent. Governor’s Restaurant – 7-course menu very good, but they tried to overcharge us by over £100 (inc the service charge on the overcharge). As soon as the waiter saw us scrutinising the bill, which seemed a bit high, he whipped it away with an “Oh sorry, I’ve made a mistake.” They had charged us for 2 bottles of dessert wine at c.£50 each instead of 2 glasses at c.£5. Who ever has a bottle of dessert wine each? Seems a rather careless mistake to make, and I would have expected a more embarrassed and fulsome apology!

Staff – excellent, except a last minute glitch – the reception staff sent us on a wild goose chase costing £10 by taxi when we urgently needed a pharmacy on a Sunday when the shops are closed. The reception staff did their best, but they just didn’t have the knowledge. In the end I had to get hold of a Sunday paper and see which pharmacies were on duty on Sunday and which time they were open, which the staff could have done in the first place (and so could I, if I’d known the staff were so unknowledgeable).
