Coming over on the ferry from England to Guernsey we read about this hotel and thought it would be a good place to have tea/lunch/dinner. We were passing and so decided to have tea. The welcome we received was warm, polite and friendly and we were shown the public areas for dinner/lunch/tea. Besides a formal dining room it has a very Raj Indian restaurant, an afternoon tea room and a conservatory. The views to the rear are over the port, so in the summer when you can dine in the garden you would get fabulous views. As we arrived at about 4pm we decided to have a pot of tea and a scone, as we did not want a full tea as we were just not that hungry. We sat in the conservatory and had a pot of Earl Grey and two scones, jam and cream, which came to just under £10. The service was excellent, efficient and courteous and the scones delicious, with real Guernsey cream. Every part of the hotel which we visited was a delight and the attention to detail was obvious. We are so glad we decided to explore this hotel. It comes highly recommended and a must to visit.

We had a 2 night break at the OGH. The staff were warm and friendly. They went out of their way to make our stay as special as possible. Ray the head waiter was a fountain of knowledge on the food and wine which were really delicious. The car hire on the Discovery Package was so easy,we just mentioned our name and the car was ready in minutes, a little Ford Ka which was perfect for the narrow roads. The room had a harbour view and a balcony. It was clean and beautifully appointed. We had a picnic lunch one day which was nicely packed, fresh and probably rather too much for the 2 of us. I had a massage in the Spa which was such a treat. The only slight down side was that many of the museums in Guernsey are closed in the winter months, opening at the end of March. The German Occupation Museum was open however and was very informative. The Guernsey people are lovely. Driving is very easy. Drivers are very courteous to each other. We will certainly be going back in the summer months.

Our second recent visit after a gap of 25 years, as always fantastic Hotel and staff, they couldn't do enough for us even surprising us with two birthday cakes and cards!! Spa facilities very good indeed, thoroughly enjoyed the "relaxing area". Breakfasts at Hotel were very high standard so bang went the diets for the duration of our stay! Looking forward to return visit.

We have just had 3 days break at the Old Government House (3 nights for 2) and have come home relaxed and fresh.
The Hotel and staff were second to none.
The rooms, food and people couldnt have been any better and made our stay one to remember.
In particular Harry and Dale (Managers) were always there to make sure everyone in the hotel were enjoying their stay.
Have already bought my mother in law a two day package for mothers day.
Once again cannot praise this hotel enough, well done to all at the OGH !!

This afternoon the OGH hosted an Afternoon Tea for 102 ladies fundraising for 2 charities - Nicki Wheetman and Diabetes UK (she is running the London Marathon for them) and my charity Bridge2. The service, quality of the tea and the helpfulness of the staff was second to none. I cannot praise them highly enough. Nicki and I were so so impressed with the whole package. The afternoon went with a swing and we have had many compliments.
So thank you OGH we WILL be back soon - if you will have us?

We went to St Peters Port for an event that we were co-hosting at the Old Government House Hotel. We stayed for one night and had lunch & dinner at the OGH. The hotel is welcoming and the staff are extremely helpful, attentive and friendly. Our standard room was not large but was furnished to a high quality. The food was very good. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot wait for an opportunity to return to the OGH.

We booked this hotel on the recommendation of a friend and the good reports here. It was not cheap at over £250 a night for our room, but we thought we would give it a try for a four day relaxing break. We checked in OK and were shown to our room. It was about the size of a Premier Inn room, but with a really good bathroom. We were then phoned from reception to say that because of a new mobile phone mast nearby there was no TV reception.

We decided to move hotels as we weren't certain of the weather and wanted the option to watch TV if we wanted to. I was surprised we were not told of the TV problem when we checked in. I was surprised we were not offered help moving to another hotel.

When I have talked to people in Guernsey they say that the hotel has been better run in the past, and one taxi drive told us of £70 cocktails.

The public rooms looked wonderful and the hotel has a good location. I hope they sort their problems out soon.

Just returned from 3 nights at The OGH. The hotel, the staff, the setting and the overall experience was fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble. Staff were extremely attentive without being in your face all the time. Will definetly be returning.

My wife and I have recently spent four nights at this hotel and from the time of our arrival to the time of our departure we were treated like VIP's. No exaggeration, we really were. The porters, the receptionists the managers and in fact all the staff who made it their duty to remember our name and address us accordingly. The room was as requested and maintained to the highest standard. The housekeeping was exceptional with evening 'turn downs'. The breakfasts are to a high standard and to suit everyone's pallet. The outdoor heated swimming pool is a must, dependant on the weather, but is often in a sun trap until late afternoon at this time of the year. This hotel definitely gets my vote as it ticked all the boxes.

This is a lovely but not perfect hotel so I'll get the negatives out of the way first. As mentioned by another guest there has not been and was not any TV reception in guest rooms. It may now be there of course. We were not told about this when booking, there was no mention of it on the hotel's website when booking and we were not told on check in.
On check in, £200 is "pre authorised" from your credit card. Even if you have paid for your hotel stay in advance as we did. On check out, even if you spend nothing as we did, this is not cancelled. Or the next day. Or the next.....we are frequent travellers in hotels of this standard on a regular monthly basis for business and this is our first experience of this type of arrangement.
Our room was very small. This was almost the first thing we were told on check in, immediately offered an upgrade, at extra cost to ourselves. The rapidity of this sort of sales pitch is demeaning for a hotel such the OGH and it should cease this practice. It is not professional.
The room was beautifully decorated and clean, just the nowadays seemingly inevitable bits of mould around the bath/shower. It was quiet, windows opened, a/c worked, plenty of towels(too many really in such a small space!), L'Occitane toiletries, gowns and slippers provided. We only ate breakfast in the hotel and this varied but was mainly excellent. The view from the hotel is great, the pool is lovely although very odd that you have to walk through the restaurant to get to it! We didn't need to interact much with staff but when we did they were very helpful. The location is excellent.
We had a fabulous time in Guernsey, the weather was excellent and we would return to the OGH. But they need to sort out the TV situation, the £200 set up and the pushing the bigger room scenario.
