High Wycombe Bowling Club
Chestnut Avenue ., HP11 1DJ
igh Wycombe Bowling Club, the third oldest club in the County, was born in 1902 in Harlow Rd. This is just east of the town centre opposite the Rye.The first High Wycombe bowling green was situated at the top of the road where St John's Ambulance Station now stands. This was a 4 rink green, which at the time was quite sufficient for the number of bowling players. The site was purchased by 35 shareholders for the sum of £35. Amongst the foundling members were furniture manufacturers, mill owners, doctors and solicitors. One of the better known members was Lord Desborough. As High Wycombe prospered and grew, so did the Bowls Club. It became apparent that the green was of insufficient size for the potential membership, so in 1927 the new club was opened at its present site in Chestnut Avenue. The Harlow Rd club was sold for £450 and the new land bought for £300. A maximum size green of eight rinks was constructed by Maxwell Hart of Glasgow at a cost of £1000. This was the first Cumberland turf green to be laid in Buckinghamshire. The clubhouse, which cost £700, has changed very little since 1927. It still has its original oak beams and the timber lined main hall. 80 hand-made wheel back chairs, each with H.W.B.C. carved on the back, were presented by James Elliots & Sons. The President's chair, also with H.W.B.C. carved on the back, was made by J.W.Hawkins. Over the years the two most important games to be played at the green were the touring South African sides in 1935 and again in 1995. Read more

The Lee Cricket Club
Chiltern Manor Park, Great Missenden, , HP16 9NA
Welcome to The Lee Cricket Club, and one of the most beautiful village cricket grounds in England. The first game of cricket was played on The Lee Manor Park Ground in 1875, and only a new pavilion and the maturing of several oak trees dotted around the boundaries have changed the outlook since then. The cows in the neighbouring field often come right up to the boundary fence to watch the matches! After over a century of playing friendly fixtures, in 1999 the club decided to play league cricket for the first time and joined the Kookaburra Mid Bucks Village League. We rapidly gained promotion from Division 2 to Division 1 and then played several seasons in the Premier league. The club continues to combine Saturday league cricket with traditional friendly games played on Sundays. In 2014 we joined the Morrant Chiltern League and the First XI play in Division 3 and the Second XI in Division 4. In addition to senior cricket, the club also runs a hugely successful colts section, with over 120 members attending either Friday night softball training or Saturday morning hardball sessions. This season we have colts teams at Under 9, Under 10, Under 12, and Under 14 and Under 15 age groups, as well as an Under 19 Twenty:20 team. Several of our colts are also representing the county. Wormsley Cricket
Stokenchurch, High Wycombe, Buckinghampshire, HP14 3YG
Wormsley has been described as the most beautiful cricket ground in England and anyone who has watched or played cricket there will never forget the experience. Sir Paul Getty was a devotee of all things English, especially the most English of games, cricket. His vision and creation of an Arcadian cricket ground at Wormsley was a source of joy to him and his family. Events at Wormsley really are "Quintessentially English", and the experience is one to cherish. The ground and facilities can be tailored to host your own event, or visit our 'events calendar' page to book yourself tickets to one of the public events. There are numerous options to make your visit truly memorable. We look forward to seeing you at Wormsley, or please contact us to discuss your specific requirements in greater detail. Read more
