STATE PENSION – CONFUSED? YOU’RE NOT ALONE
There are more changes to state pension benefits and from 6 April 2016, those reaching pensionable age will be receiving a pension based on a higher flat-rate, or ‘single tier’ figure of £155.65 per week. A frequent area of confusion lies around who will receive this higher rate. It will apply only to those reaching state pension age (SPA) on or after April 2016, not to those by then in receipt of their state pension. Those already receiving retirement benefits are, however, seeing their state pension rise by 2.9% to £119.30 per week (or an extra £174.20 per year) from 6 April 2016.
