A very enjoyable and relaxing stay at this lovely hotel. The service, room, food and the general ambiance were exceptional. The staff were very polite and couldn't do enough for you. The location of the hotel was in prime position with only a few minutes walk from the sea front. We did book a table for the curry room during the week and I'm sorry to say that it was a little disappointing with the quality of food compared to the brasserie. I do believe that there has been some staff changes regarding the chef for the curry room and that might explain why it was not what I expected.

The rather less than grand entrance to the hotel is mitigated by the interior reception hall and lobby which indicates this may well be a 5 star hotel. Good furnishings and a quirky network of staircases and corridors lend a curious desire to explore. The restaurant is on 2 levels and divided into linked sections which again makes for an interesting and pleasing atmosphere. The food is excellent and if South African wine is your thing, you’re in for a treat. The pool is on the small side but well located and designed. The staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly if sometimes having to hand over your request to another. The only downside was a less than expected quality of bathroom shower in an otherwise very comfortable king room. A return visit is a must-do.

We stayed at Old Government house as part of a package . Very traditional hotel with tasteful period decor. Our room was very small but adequate as we were staying only 5 nights and had excursions booked for the day times. The majority of guests were of retirement age +. Our bathroom had a bath and the smallest show cubicle possible. One could not bend down in it. We are retired but not incapacitated but, a large walk in shower would be much more practical for the small bathroom area and more user friendly.
The food was excellent as was the service from the lovely welcoming and friendly staff. There is limited valet parking which requires cars to be moved around by hotel staff in one’s absence.

What a great stay. From the pick up and drop off from and to the airport with andrew the team couldn’t have been better. The manager kris was so attentive and his attention to detail before and during our stay was superb. All the hotel team were amazing.

From the time we arrived until we left, the service was top-notch. The staff were so gracious!! The place is gorgeous and the food was delicious, including the nightly sweet treat. Not sure if I will ever be back, but staying here was one of the highlights of visiting St Peter Port!!

The hotel is superb.
We asked to change room as the shower room only facility wasn’t to our liking.
Kris sorted an alternative room out extremely quickly and we were more than satisfied with the new accommodation.
All the staff made us feel special and nothing was too much trouble.
The breakfasts were exceptional but the evening meals were even better.
My friend who recommended the Old Government House has been thanked (i have even gone as far a promising him a meal out on me next week).
If you want a relaxing break with five star treatment. Look no further.

This hotel is a historic treasure. The athmosphere is like in a dream. Very, i mean, very nice staff and the service is topclass all the way. My best breakfast ever. The old hotel with those many stairs make this place something very special

We had a fantastic long weekend break here and could not fault the hotel, the staff are brilliant throughout, from Breakfast which was superb to housekeeping and the bar staff, it was always service with a smile,
Govind and the team here have a real can do attitude and leave you feeling nothing could be to much trouble.
all I can add is we cant wait to return! and we will be soon.

Just returned from 4 nights at this nice hotel. The USP of this hotel is their staff and their attention to detail is outstanding. The restaurant serves food of the highest quality with service to match. Where we struggle to offer equal praise is on a few fronts. The room we had (201) was very tired and needs some attention. The carpet had some very dodgy stains and the windows were very difficult to open or shut particularly in the toilet where we couldn’t shut the upper part of the window. The walk-in shower was reasonably ok but my wife who has mobility problems due to MS found it very difficult to get in and out due to a large step. When we book a hotel we always insist on a ground level wet room/shower and we thought we made this known prior to arrival. The hotel offers a nice turn down service but that never happened on our final night! Finally, always check with this hotel if they’re hosting a wedding reception as the priority seemed to lean towards the wedding as opposed to residents, we we’re actually asked to leave the garden to make way for pre-wedding drinks for the wedding party! To be fair to the manager, he notified us of increased noise until midnight and get to breakfast early to avoid having to wait at peak times. The irony of this notification is that we couldn’t avoid the loud music as we couldn’t shut the window; see early references!
Finally, when we arrived at the airport and picked a taxi from the rank the price was always metered and the charge was perfectly acceptable. When we booked a taxi for the return trip to the airport through the OGH reception after leaving the hotel the meter was turned off and the cost was double to that of our inward journey! Our advice is tread carefully and agree costs before leaving. We felt we were well and truly shafted!!
