The aim of York Against Cancer is to help people affected by cancer in York and the surrounding area and their work covers three main areas: Cancer Care Education Research

Because York Against Cancer is a small, local charity they are flexible enough to respond quickly to the needs of those affected by cancer by funding facilities and services that are not provided by any other organisations.

Many of the care services provided are innovative…. indeed they are very proud of their record of introducing services that are later adopted by the NHS or other service providers.

York Against Cancer recognises that cancer affects not just those diagnosed but also their families and carers. It is recognised too, that the effects of cancer go way beyond the diagnosis and many of the services we provide are designed to help people deal with emotional, financial, even social issues.

Their education commitment ensures that local people from school children to the wider community are more aware of the causes of cancer, ways to identify the disease at an early stage – and lifestyle choices to help prevent it occurring.  The research undertaken involves collaboration between York Hospital and the University of York. In addition to achieving some remarkable results, it provides an opportunity for students and young medical graduates to gain their first experiences of research.

These achievements are only possible because of the generosity of local people who organise fundraising events and donate money from a few pence to many thousands of pounds.

To all past and future supporters… York Against Cancer would like to take this opportunity to thank you – and hope that they can count on your support for many years to come……
