Montacute House is a striking Elizabethan mansion set in beautiful gardens just outside Yeovil. Managed by the National Trust, the house is renowned for its golden Ham stone architecture, long gallery, and fine period interiors filled with art and furniture. It’s one of the best-preserved examples of Elizabethan design in England.

Visitors can explore the Long Gallery, the longest of its kind in the country, which houses a collection of Tudor and Elizabethan portraits on loan from the National Portrait Gallery. Outside, the formal gardens and surrounding parkland offer peaceful walks, picnic spots, and plenty of space for children to explore.

  • Dogs are welcome in the parkland on leads but not in the formal gardens.

  • There’s a café serving hot meals, drinks, and cakes, plus a National Trust gift shop.
