Henstridge Airfield is a well-known general aviation site on the Somerset–Dorset border. Originally built during the Second World War, it has grown into a busy hub for private pilots, flying schools, aviation clubs and enthusiasts. Today, the airfield supports flight training, recreational flying, aircraft hire, and is home to a number of aviation businesses.
The airfield was constructed in the early 1940s as a Fleet Air Arm training base during World War II. Known then as HMS Dipper, it was used for naval pilot training, particularly with the Fairey Swordfish and later with Seafire aircraft. Following the war, Henstridge transitioned to civilian use but has retained its strong aviation heritage, with veterans’ events and memorials marking its wartime role.
Runways & Hangars: A main hard runway plus grass runways, with facilities for both based and visiting aircraft.
