About the Collection

The South Somerset Heritage Collection is the principal archive and museum collection for South Somerset, caring for thousands of objects, photographs and documents that tell the story of the district and its people. The collection spans archaeology, social history, costume, rural life, industry and local traditions, preserving everyday and extraordinary items that reflect South Somerset’s rich heritage.

While the collection is primarily stored and conserved behind the scenes, it plays a vital role in supporting exhibitions, education programmes, research projects and community heritage initiatives across the district.
