Chandler Court, on Recreation Road, is inviting people to revisit traditions from Christmas past by joining residents and team members for a party on Wednesday 17th December from 2.30pm-4.30pm.
The event is part of Care UK’s ‘Step into Christmas’ initiative, which aims to rekindle festive customs that residents remember from their childhood by reliving them and sharing them with the local community.
On the day, Chandler Court will be transformed into a setting befitting a 1950s-inspired Christmas tea party with all the traditional décor.
Guests will be treated to a joyful hour led by author, storyteller and performer Cat Weatherill, who will bring Christmases past to life through tales and a lively singalong.
Resident Doreen Dyer said: “It’s very important to celebrate past Christmas traditions. I used to put a tangerine in the children’s pillowcases on Christmas Eve, and it’s something we still talk about each year. On New Year’s Eve, I would add a piece of coal to the pillowcase.”
Resident Sheila Oliver added: “It’s important that traditions are passed down through the generations. All the family would come together at Christmas, and I used to make my own crackers for the table – it became a cherished family tradition.”
Rebecca Pearce, Customer Relations Manager at Chandler Court, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year and this event allows us to honour memories from residents’ childhoods, bringing them to life once again.
“This is also a wonderful opportunity to unite the community and pass on traditions that may otherwise be forgotten.
“We’d like to encourage local people to join us to celebrate the festive season and bring the memories of Christmas past to Bromsgrove.”
