On Friday 7th August from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Chandler Court will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

Visitors to the Recreation Road home can look forward to a pop-up bakery, where residents will be serving traditional and well-loved cakes that have delighted generations and bring back fond memories.

Team members at the home will also be hosting a creative cake painting workshop using recycled materials, perfect for the whole family.

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.

“Guests can expect a delightful pop-up bakery experience, with a tempting selection of traditional homestyle cakes, chosen and prepared by our residents, alongside the home’s chef. We’ll be using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients wherever possible, supporting local producers, while creating delicious sweet treats for everyone to enjoy.”
