Our very own Local Heroes

Here at thebestof Worcester we’re on a mission; to uncover the hidden gems of our city, we find all the best businesses and shout about them to local people. We also work with charities and not for profit organisations and on our travels find lots of ‘local heroes’ and we think that Ann-Marie Ison is one of our best!

Ann-Marie set up the Worcester Food Bank back in June 2012, she now has teams of volunteers providing a vital service to those who need it most. Three vouchers are given out which entitles the recipient to three days worth of food with each voucher, so within 9 days the benefits system will have kicked in, this service really is essential to those people who are struggling to afford the ever-increasing price of food.

Thanks to the courageous work of Ann-Marie and her volunteers at Worcester Food Bank they have helped over 1,000 people in just 6months and this figure is set to increase throughout 2013 as more and more people are dependent on this service.

If you’d like to donate food tins for this worthy cause please drop them off to Worcester Food Bank, Unit 2, Carden Court, Carden Close. Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s 11am-2pm where they will be gratefully received. For more information check out www.worcester.foodbank.org.uk

P.S. If you know of a local hero you’d like to nominate for our Worcester Heroes award please email us: worcester@thebestof.co.uk we’d love to hear from you.
