With festival season officially under way, a care home in Wolverhampton is welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.

On Wednesday 5th August from 2.30pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Foxland Grange will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

Visitors to the Wergs Road home can look forward to a special bake-off competition, hosted by Head Chef Dan. The competition will see residents and the home's chefs showcase their skills by preparing a host of tasty cakes, including Victoria sponge, scones and carrot cakes, all featuring fresh produce.

In the lead-up to the event, residents have been sharing their favourite food-related stories, including memories of them baking for friends and family.

Resident Joyce Lester, said: “Victoria sponge was one of my simple but favourite recipes as the children would decorate the top themselves and we all enjoyed the delicious homemade jam to go inside. It was always a treat in our house.”

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
